COLUMBUS, Ohio - Eight Buckeyes competed in the 2006 Summer National Championships in Atlanta, Ga., last weekend. Four fencers earned Top 10 finishes at the competition, with three finishing in the Top 3. The competition was held at the World Congress Center from June 30-July 9.
Among the Top 10 finishers were sophomore Andras Horanyi (Boulder, Colo.), graduate Jason Rogers (Los Angeles, Calif.), senior Christian Rivera (Bloomfield, N.J.) and junior Eileen Grench (Davis, Calif.). Horanyi finished first in the Division I Men's Foil competition and was the only Buckeye to do so. Both Rogers and Rivera tied for third, with Rogers competing in the Division I Men's Sabre and Rivera competing in the Division I Men's Epee. Grench rounded out the Top 10 by finishing 10th in the Division I Women's Sabre.
Sophomore Mikhail Momtselidze (Kansas City, Mo.), graduate Adam Crompton (Newark, N.J.) and senior Jason Paul (Los Angeles, Calif.) also competed in the 2006 Summer National Championships. Momtselidze finished 14th in the Division I Men's Sabre competition while Crompton and Paul finished 19th and 24th in the same event, respectively. In addition, senior Kaela Brendler (San Antonio, Texas) placed 12th in Division I Women's Epee.
