WALTHAM, Mass. -- Three Buckeyes earned medals at day two of the 2016 NCAA Fencing Championships, highlighted by women's foilist Eleanor Harvey, who claimed a gold medal and her first NCAA Champion title. Buckeye foilist Alanna Goldie and epeeist Eugenia Falqui finished the day with bronze medals.
After day one of competition, junior Eleanor Harvey moved up from fourth place to second with 21 victories and a +67 indicator. Harvey faced Notre Dame's Sabrina Massialas in the semi-final round, winning the bout 15-9. Advancing to the final round, Harvey went up against Columbia's Jackie Dubrovich. The Hamilton, Ontario native came from behind to defeat the No. 1 seed, 15-10. Harvey's previous appearance at NCAA's in 2015 ended in ninth place.
Junior Alanna Goldie improved from fifth place yesterday to fourth place, earning 19 wins and a +50 touch differential. The foilist was defeated by silver medalist Jackie Dubrovich in a close bout, 15-14. Goldie, a native of Calgary, Alberta, finishes with her third bronze medal at NCAA Championships, having tied for third in both 2015 and 2014.
Women's epeeist Eugenia Falqui finished in fourth place, moving up from her fifth place finish in rounds 1-3. Junior Falqui claimed 14 victories and a +9 indicator in pool competition. The native of Rome, Italy was defeated by Princeton's Charlene Liu in the semi-final round, 13-8. Falqui earns her first medal at NCAAs, previously finishing in eighth place in 2015 and 22nd in 2014.
Freshman epeeist Emma von Dadelszen finished pool competition in 12th place, with 12 victories and a +10 differential. Sabre fencer Alexa Antipas placed 17th claiming ten victories. The junior ended the day with a -18 indicator.
The team holds on to its spot in fourth place, with 76 total victories. Women's foil contributed 40, women's epee totaled 26, and women's sabre earned 10. Columbia (86), Notre Dame (84), and Princeton (82) place ahead of Ohio State after the completion of women's competition. Men's competition begins tomorrow.
