Buckeyes Fifth after Day 3 of 2015 NCAA Fencing Championships
COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State fencing team finished the third day of competition in fifth place after the first three rounds of women's competition, totaling 15 bouts, today in French Field House. The team title will be awarded according to team totals from all four days of competition tomorrow after the distribution women's individual titles.
The women's foil duo of Alanna Goldie and Eleanor Harvey started in sixth and 12th place after the first round of competition. The pair elevated two and three spots, respectively, in the second round. Goldie ended the day in fourth place with 12 victories and a +26 indicator, just behind Marta Hausman from St. John's (12 victories and +27 indicator). Harvey finished ninth with eight victories.
Sophomore Eugenia Falqui ended the first round in fifth place, collecting four victories. Falqui accumulated nine victories throughout the first three rounds to end in seventh place.
For women's sabre, Kimberly Young represented the Buckeyes and ended the first round in 12th place. Young earned seven victories for the day to end in the No. 13 spot.
Ohio State finished the day in fifth place with 120 victories, behind Columbia (136), Penn State (128), Notre Dame (127) and Princeton (121). Tomorrow marks the end of competition with rounds four and five, beginning at 9 a.m. in French Field House, then semifinal and championship bouts at 1:30 p.m. in St. John Arena.
