COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships, 27 Buckeyes garnered All-Conference honors.
Eleven athletes from the women's squad, including four from the sabre and epee units and three from the foil unit, received honors. The men’s squad received 16 honors, with the epee unit leading with seven honorees and the foil and sabre units following with five and four a piece.
For the women’s squad, six fencers received first team all-conference nods. They include Maddalena Bosetti and Sarah Merza of the sabre unit, Alexa Laskaris and Camilla Rivano of the foil unit, and Alexanne Verret and Emma von Dadelszen of the epee unit.
The men’s squad tallied nine first team fencers, three from each weapon unit. For the epee unit, Marc-Antoine Blais Belanger, Oliver Shindler, and John Culpepper took home the honors. Foilists who received the nod are Stas Sudilovsky, William Gaziano, and Julien Baneux. For the sabre unit, Frederik Koch, Hector Florencia, Andrew Herczak received the recognition.
von Dadelszen, Rivano, Merza, Blais Belanger, and Sudilovsky each won the individual MFC Championship for their respective weapons while the other recipients finished within the top-5 of their respective weapon category.
Aleksandra Kolmykova (sabre), Gabriela Cecchini (foil), and Caira Moreira-Brown (epee) made second team honors for the women.
Joseph Guinan III, Jack Bradford, and Matthew Comes of the men’s epee unit and Nicola Sirito and Maximilien Chastanet of the foil unit also earned second team all-conference.
Joanne Chen (sabre), Gabriella Leccese (epee), and Lewis Weiss (epee) received honorable mention.
