Ohio State Prepares To Host MFC Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Hosting the event for the second consecutive year, Ohio State will embark on the quest for its fourth conference title in a row this weekend at French Field House. Twenty-four Midwest fencing teams will compete in individual competition on Feb. 25 and team competition on Feb. 26.

Including Ohio State (No. 1 Men and No. 6 Women), six varsity teams will be in attendance - No. 8 Northwestern, Cleveland State, Lawrence, Detroit-Mercy and Wayne State.

The Buckeyes dominated last year's Midwest Fencing Conference Championships, earning their 11th conference title in program history. The combined team earned 1,590 points, with 810 points coming from the first place men and 780 points from the second place women. Ohio State was the only team to finish in the top three of every weapon category over the weekend, taking home a total of 21 trophies from individual and team events.

Men's foilist Stas Sudilovsky, men's epeeist Lewis Weiss, men's saberist Frederik Koch and women's foilist Eleanor Harvey all return to defend their individual gold finishes.

Upon completion of MFC Championships, the Buckeyes will head to Detroit, Mich. for the NCAA Midwest Regional Qualifier on March 11.
