Student-Athlete Spotlight: Caroline Piasecka, Fencing

Caroline Piasecka, a senior on the fencing team, excels both on the strips and in the classroom. The Oslo, Norway, native has tallied 38 victories so far this season and has been recognized as a member of the Primetime Performer Weekly Honor Roll by CollegeFencing360 for her performances at the NYU Invitational and St. John's Invitational. She has made an appearance at the NCAA championships for the past three years and earned Second Team All-America accolades for the 2012-13 season. Piasecka also demonstrates excellence in the classroom as a three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Do you prefer the Oval in the Fall or Spring (or maybe the Winter)? Winter! I love when the Oval is covered in white snow.
Where is the best place to sit for lectures? Second row on the right side
Most underrated place to study on campus? The Physics building; it is always quiet and there are many secluded places to study.
Why did you choose to major in finance? I wanted to complement my undergraduate degree in international business with a more quantitative business discipline
If you were the University President for a day, what would you do? Give everyone the day off!

Favorite singer or musical group - These days it's mostly Ellie Goulding

The athlete I would most like to compete against - Rafael Nadal
Favorite athletic memory - Watching my brother, Bartosz, win a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics in London
Team you're most looking forward to competing against? Princeton, they have a very strong team this year so it will be exciting to see who comes out on top
What is your top skill? What skill do you need to improve? - My biggest advantage is probably my technical skill. I still need to work on being patient and staying focused in difficult situations.
Dream event (non-sport or sport-related) you would like to attend - The 2016 Olympics in Rio
Most interesting place I've visited - Cape Town, South Africa
Place I would like to visit - Thailand!
Favorite home cooked meal - Anything my dad cooks

People I most admire? My parents, they have sacrificed a lot to help me excel academically and athletically
The greatest risk I've ever taken was - Coming to Ohio State all the way from Europe without having visited the school
In 10 years, I would like to be - Running my own company that specializes in sustainable business practices
If I had a million dollars, I would - not start working this fall and try to qualify for the next Olympics instead
Coolest thing you did this past summer - Competed at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia
Most prized possession - My phone; I don't go anywhere without it
I would like to trade places for a day with - Sir Richard Branson
Best piece of advice you've received - Don't waste your energy on things you cannot control
If you could have dinner with any 3 people (alive or dead), who would they be? Jeff Bezos (CEO Amazon), Larry Page (CEO Google), and Steve Jobs
Any superstitions, non-event related - I am a firm believer in jinxing things by talking about them
If your parents/guardians bragged about you, what would they say? - That I am a very hard worker
