COLUMBUS, Ohio – After moving up to the number one spot in CollegeFencing360.com’s rankings, the Ohio State men’s squad fenced in two rounds at Wayne State Duals in Detroit, Mich. on Saturday. The team defeated Detroit-Mercy, 17-10, and Wayne State, 22-5.
The Buckeye saber unit comprised of a pair of freshmen, Frank Ditullio and Domenik Koch, and sophomore Anurup Krishna. Koch led the way, undefeated through two rounds with six points. Ditullio contributed four points, and Krishna registered three. The unit ended the day with a 13-5 bout-record.
Freshman Leon Cao highlighted the men’s foil effort, earning a 5-1 bout-record. Sophomore Nicola Sirito and Junior James Hu both collected four points, and the unit as a whole earned a 13-5 bout-record.
Rookie John Culpepper led the epee squad, going undefeated through six bouts. Junior Rob Caldwell earned a 4-2 bout-record while sophomore Ahmed Al-Tayeb ended the day at an even 3-3. The unit totaled a 13-5 bout-record after two rounds of competition.
The Buckeyes will join the No. 6 women’s squad to host Midwest Fencing Conference Championships in Columbus, Ohio on Feb. 25-26
