Buckeye men squads combined 14-1 against opposing weapons
COLUMBUS, Ohio The No.3 Ohio State men’s fencing team traveled to Notre Dame, Ind., Feb. 7 for the Notre Dame Duals. The Ohio State women did not compete at Notre Dame.
The sabre squad was at its sharpest against Cal Tech and Air Force, scoring 9-0 wins against both. They also posted an 8-1 win over Florida, a 6-3 win over UC San Diego and a 5-4 win over No. 8 Stanford.
The foil team, led by two-time defending national champion Andras Horanyi, was also strong, blanking Cal Tech 9-0 and overpowering Florida, 8-1. They also took Stanford down 6-3, Air Force 7-2 and UC San Diego 6-3.
The epee team and senior Jason Pryor also had a good day, winning 8-1 over Florida and 7-2 against UC San Diego, Cal Tech and Stanford. The only team that topped the Buckeyes was the Air Force epee team, edging a 5-4 win.
The entire Ohio State fencing team will return to Notre Dame at the end of February in search of a seventh-consecutive Midwest Conference Championship.
