Ohio State fencing to take on Northwestern Duals

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State fencing team will travel to Evanston, Ill., for the Northwestern Duals on Saturday. Competition is set to begin at 8 a.m.

Thirteen teams will compete, including the Buckeyes and their host, Northwestern. The other schools participating are Stanford, Farleigh Dickinson, Penn, Cal Tech, Princeton, Air Force, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Temple, University of California-San Diego, and Wayne State.

LAST YEAR
The Scarlet and Gray had a strong performance last year at the Northwestern Duals, dropping only one bout to the then top-ranked Princeton women’s unit. The women’s squad ended the day, 6-1, while the men’s contingent won all their bouts for an 8-0 record.

COLLEGEFENCING360 COACHES POLL IS IN
Both squads were ranked in the top-5 of the initial CollegeFencing360 Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes claimed the third most votes for the men’s unit, while earning No. 5 for the women’s unit. Ohio State claimed 235 votes combined.

Penn State is on top for the men’s poll, while Notre Dame leads in the women’s poll.


 

 

WELCOME Marcos Lucchetti
Marcos Lucchetti was named an associate head coach this past week by head coach Vladimir Nazlymov. Lucchetti brings 25 years of international and national experience, including positions at Stevens Institute of Technology and Princeton.

 “I’ve known Marcos for almost 25 years and I’m really excited about the experience he brings to our coaching staff,” Nazlymov said. “I can already tell our student-athletes are happy to have him on our side. He’s an emotional coach and adds toughness to our team.”

UP NEXT
After the Northwestern Duals, the Buckeyes will continue their 2015 season at the Notre Dame Duals on Feb. 7 in South Bend, Ind. Ohio State will host the NCAA Fencing Championships for the second-consecutive year on March 19 to March 22.
