Buckeyes Compete at January Division I NAC

Virginia Beach, Va.-Buckeye fencers wrapped up competition at the January NAC in Virginia Beach, Va., on Jan. 20.

Of the 23 fencers that competed, six earned a finish in the Top-25 of their event. Junior Celina Merza earned the highest-ranking Buckeye finish, 12, in women’s sabre.  Fellow sabreist Alexa Antipas and foilist Mona Shaito added two more Top-25 finishes for the women’s unit, 17 and 23 respectively.

For the men’s unit, one fencer from each weapon contributed a Top-25 finish— Kristian Boyadzhiev, 16, for men’s epee, Zain Shaito, 19T, for men’s foil, and Rhys Douglas, 25, for men’s sabre.

The Buckeye fencing squad returns to the strips on a two-day trip to New York to compete in the St. John’s Duals, Jan. 25, and NYU Duals, Jan. 26.
