COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing squad is set to kick off the 2012 regular season with a pair of events in New York, N.Y., this weekend. The Buckeyes square off in the St. John’s Invitational Saturday before traveling across town to take part in the New York University Invitational Sunday.

Following the events in New York, Ohio State will travel to Evanston, Ill., to compete in the Northwestern Duals Feb. 4.
THE ST. JOHN’S INVITATIONAL
Ohio State opens its 2012 schedule at the six-team event, hosted by St. John’s. The duals are set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday inside Carnesecca Arena and Taffner Field House. The event features five of the top six finishers at the 2011 NCAA Championships, including defending champion Notre Dame and runner-up Penn State. St. John’s, Harvard and Columbia round out the Buckeyes’ competition.
THE NYU INVITATIONAL
The NYU Violets’ event kicks off at 8 a.m. Sunday inside the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center. Ohio State is one of nine schools represented at the event. The Buckeyes are joined by hosting NYU, Columbia, St. John’s, Notre Dame, Yale, Wayne State, North Carolina and Northwestern.
Both Ohio State squads were ranked in the Top 10 of CollegeFencing360.com’s Jan. 19 coaches’ poll. The Buckeye men found themselves in fifth, while the women came in sixth in the rankings.
