COLUMBUS, Ohio – Twenty-three members of Ohio State’s fencing team competed in the January North American Cup this past weekend in St. Louis, Mo. The Buckeyes’ performance was highlighted by a silver medal from epee fencer Marc-Antoine Blais Belanger.
Blais Belanger, a sophomore on the men’s epee squad, began the competition seeded at 16. Advancing to the round of four, Blais Belanger defeated Alliance Fencing Academy’s Sean Wilson 15-11. In the next bout, Blais Belanger fell to Columbia University’s Alen Hadzic, 15-8, claiming the second place spot and a silver medal.
Other top performances include a 10th place finish from Eugenia Falqui in women’s epee, a 21st place finish from Emma von Dadelszen in women’s epee, and a 22nd place finish from Fares Arfa in men’s sabre.
Former Buckeye and current undergraduate assistant coach Celina Merza claimed a fifth place finish in women’s sabre.
The Buckeyes will return to action in New York, N.Y. at St. John’s Duals on Jan. 23.
