COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After four days of competition, members of the Ohio State fencing team completed a strong performance at USA Fencing's January NAC. The Buckeyes collected two medals along with six finishes in the top-20.
Women's saber fencers opened competition on Friday, with Alexa Antipas finishing in 15th place and Sarah Merza finishing in 17th. On Saturday, the Buckeyes claimed two medals and another top-20 performance from women's foilist Eleanor Harvey (1), Marc-Antoine Blais Belanger (3T) and Lewis Weiss (9). Women's epeeist Eugenia Falqui claimed a sixth place finish on Sunday, and teammate Emma von Dadelszen finished close behind in 10th in Sunday competition. Fares Arfa closed out the competition on Monday with a tie for 13th place in men's saber.
Thirty current Buckeyes participated in the NAC, along with a few Buckeye fencing products. Celina Merza, currently a volunteer coach with the team, placed sixth in women's saber. Women's foilist Mona Shaito finished tied for 11th place.
Up next, the Buckeyes will travel to New York, N.Y., for St. John's Duals on Jan. 21.
