Buckeyes Sweep the OSU Duals

The Ohio State fencing team finished 13-0 in the 2013 OSU Duals Saturday at the French Field House. The victory extended the team’s undefeated streak to10-consecutive years at the event.
The Buckeye sabre squad notched a 140-4 record toward the win. Freshmen Alexa Antipas, Ben Theeman and Alan Dornjandaeng debuted with undefeated performances. Junior Celina Merza also notched 23-0 victory for the women’s sabre squad.
All three women’s foil competitors, Kyjah Coryat, Mai Shaito and Taylor McIntyre contributed to a 72-0 record. The men’s squad added 66 wins, highlighted by performances from freshman Taylor Clarkson, 19-2, and classmate Michael Hastings-Grgas, 19-2.
The women’s epee squad posted a 67-5 record overall. Freshmen Eugenia Falqui opened her Buckeye career with an undefeated performance, contributing 18 points to her team total. Freshmen Julian Johnson and Michael Billinghurst posted 15 and 16 victories respectively, adding to the men’s overall score, 57-15.
As a whole, the women’s unit registered undefeated performances vs. Case Western, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan State.
Ohio State fences next in an exhibition match vs. Notre Dame on Oct. 12.
