Looking Back At Ohio State Fencing's Summer

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Several members of the Ohio State fencing team participated in competition over the summer. The Buckeyes sent nine members of the team to four different competitions, bringing back four gold medals and two bronze medals.

Nine Buckeyes participated in the US Summer Nationals in San Jose, Calif. Six Buckeyes placed in the Top 25, two of which had top five finishes at US Summer Nationals. Junior Alanna Goldie placed third to earn a bronze medal in women's foil and junior Eleanor Harvey finished close behind, placing fifth in women's foil.

At the World University Games in Gwangju, Korea, all three Buckeyes to compete placed in the top 15 of their events. Sophomore Maximilien Chastanet finished first in men's foil, earning gold medals for individual and team competition.

To wrap up the summer on a high note, Alanna Goldie and Eleanor Harvey both received gold medals at the Pan-American Games in Toronto, Canada for their team efforts. Fencing for Canada, the foil duo edged the United States 38-37 to win their first Pan-American games in history. Goldie, a junior, placed third in individual competition earning a bronze medal as well.
