Buckeyes Flawless at Northwestern Duals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s fencing teams compiled a combined 13-0 record Feb. 4 at the Northwestern Duals in Evanston, Ill. The team is 33-2 this season.

The Ohio State women opened the day by taking a 15-12 decision against second-ranked Princeton. The Scarlet and Gray also scored ranked wins over No. 8 Temple and No. 10 Duke.

Freshman Mona Shaito made a mark with a 21-0 effort in women’s foil. Katarzyna Dabrowa picked up 16 wins in women’s epee and Alison Miller led the way in women’s sabre with 14 victories.

On the men’s side, Ohio State notched a 15-12 victory over Princeton’s second-ranked men’s squad before downing No. 8 Duke, 16-11.

Senior sabreist Max Stearns led all men with 15 wins, followed by Ewan Douglas with 14. Epeeist Kristian Boyadzhiev collected 11 wins. Zain Shaito set the pace for men’s foilists with 10 victories.

The Buckeyes enter postseason play March 3-4 at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships in South Bend, Ind.
