COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State softball (23-23) fell short 9-5 to Akron. The offense put up eight hits, leaving three on base.

Hadley Parisien, Abbie Wilhelm and Taylor Cruse each had multiple hits. Wilhelm's two home runs put her in the record book, as she surpassed 21 home runs to stand alone for the second most home runs in a single season in program history. The previous second was teammate Hadley Parisien. Wilhelm drove in four of Ohio State's runs.

Kennedy Kay got the loss for the Buckeyes, tossing 3.1 innings and allowing six earned runs. Lexi Paulsen got the start and 2.2 innings of work where she allowed one run and one hit.

How it Happened

Ohio State took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an Abbie Wilhelm home run that scored Hadley Parisien.
Akron halved the Ohio State lead with a Sophia Wygast double that scored Brooke Sivek in the top of the third.
A Reese Cullen solo home run in the bottom of the fourth put the Buckeyes back up 3-1.
Akron tied the game in the top of the fifth on run-scoring hits by Kenzie Gatti and Lily Sullivan.
The Buckeyes got two runs back in the bottom half on Wilhlelm's second home run of the day, scoring Parisien once again to take a 5-3 lead.
Akron retied the game at five apiece in the top of the sixth via a Haley Glass leadoff home run and a fielder's choice.
The Zips took a a 9-5 lead in the top of the seventh on a Andrea Day two run homer and a bases-loaded Wygast single.
Kennedy Kay (3-6) got the loss, allowing 10 hits and six runs through 3.1 innings pitched. Lexi Paulsen got the start, going 2.2 innings while allowing one earned run. Carter Wachtel tossed an inning as well, allowing two earned runs. Madie Jamrog (12-6) got the complete game win for Akron.

On the Road Again
Ohio State will look to get back in the win column in a Big Ten road trip against a No. 14 Oregon (35-9) squad that is currently ranked second in the conference. The Buckeyes and Ducks will face off in a three-game series, spanning the weekend.
