
Buckeyes Win Big Against Akron, 19-7

Game Recap
- Sahil Patel started things off strong for the Buckeyes, fanning three of four faced in the top of the first inning.
- Henry Kaczmar unloaded his eighth home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead.
- In the top of the second, the Zips tied the score, 1-1, after a solo home run.
- To lead off the bottom of the second inning, Maddix Simpson smacked a ball off the scoreboard to give Ohio State the lead back, 2-1. Mason Eckelman and Lee Ellis hit back-to-back singles for the Buckeyes and a fielder's choice from Mangrum sent Eckelman home to put Ohio State ahead by two, 3-1.
- With one out in the bottom of the third, Dane Harvey drew a walk. Simpson stepped up to the dish next and he went yard for the second time to plate two more runs for the Buckeyes. Eckelman then doubled to left center and a triple to left center from Ellis sent Eckelman home. A sacrifice bunt from Miles Vandenheuvel scored Ellia and gave the Buckeyes a six-run lead, 7-1.
- Akron cut the Ohio State lead to four, 7-3, in the top of the fourth inning after a two-RBI double.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs, Mangrum and Vandenheuvel were walked, and Alex Bemis was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kaczmar and Noah Furcht drew back-to-back walks to send two runs home. A single to right center from Harvey plated two more runs and extended the Buckeye lead, 11-3.
- In the top of the sixth inning, the Zips got back within four runs of the Buckeyes, 11-7, after an RBI single, a two-RBI double and an RBI sacrifice fly.
- Ellis hit his second triple of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. A sacrifice fly from Mangrum scored Ellis and put the Buckeyes ahead by five, 12-7.
- Bemis and Kaczmar drew back-to-back walks to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. Furcht was then hit by a pitch to load up the bases. Harvey, the Buckeyes' home run leader, stepped up next and he went yard, hitting his second grand slam of the season to plate four runs and put the Buckeyes ahead, 16-7. With one out on the board, Eckelman doubled to right field and Ellis was walked. Mangrum was next at the plate and he sent the walk-off home run over the center field wall to ice the 19-7 run-rule win for the Buckeyes.
- Harvey has hit a home run in six straight games. He led the Buckeyes with six RBIs, tying his career-high.
- Sahil Patel (1-0) earned the win. He struck out a career-high seven batters and allowed three runs on six hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
- Ellis and Eckelman led the Buckeyes in hits with three each. Two of Ellis' hits were triples.
- Simpson had the first two-home run game of his career.
- The Buckeyes head to Piscataway, N.J. for a three-game series against Rutgers Friday, April 24-Sunday, April 26.
