Athletes of the Week

  • Buckeye forward Alex Lippincott was named the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week after posting four points in the Ohio State men's hockey team's sweep at Michigan over the weekend. Lippincott was named the game's first star in the 6-5 win at Michigan Saturday after a career-high two goals and four points. In addition, he matched his career best with two assists and a +2 mark.

  • Senior Natalie Spooner helped lead the Ohio State women's ice hockey team to a sweep at Syracuse, tallying two goals and two assists on the weekend.

    No. 3/3 Men's Basketball (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten)

  • Jared Sullinger had 20 points and 11 rebounds in little more than a half and No. 3-ranked Ohio State used an 18-0 blitz to roll to an 85-41 victory over Jackson State Nov. 18. Deshaun Thomas, William Buford and Jordan Sibert each had 11 points for the Buckeyes (3-0), who were coming off an 81-74 victory over No. 7 Florida, also in the Global Sports Shootout. All 12 players on the roster saw action, with 11 scoring and all 12 grabbing at least one rebound.

    No. 24 Women's Basketball (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten)

  • Ohio State head coach Jim Foster has signed three prospects to National Letters of Intent to play for the Buckeyes beginning next season. The class includes Ameryst Alston, a 5-9 guard and Ohio Ms. Basketball from Canton McKinley, McDonald's All-American nominee Lisa Blair, a 6-6 center from Brooklyn, N.Y., and Caitlin Craft, a 5-8 All-Ohio guard from Findlay and sister of Aaron Craft on the Ohio State men's basketball team.
  • Samantha Prahalis and Tayler Hill combined for 44 points Nov. 18 as No. 24 Ohio State defeated visiting Temple, 70-66, in front of 3,659 fans at Value City Arena.

    No. 15 Field Hockey (12-9, 4-2 Big Ten)

  • Four members of the Ohio State field hockey team have earned All-West Region honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, the NFHCA announced Nov. 17. Jenn Sciulli and Paula Pastor-Pitarque were both named to the first team, while Berta Queralt and Danica Deckard were second-team selections.

  • No. 21 Penn State defeated Ohio State 20-14 Nov. 19 before a Senior Day crowd of 105,493 at Ohio Stadium.
  • Offensively, Ohio State was led by quarterback Braxton Miller, who totaled 188 all-purpose yards, 105 on the ground and 83 through the air on 7-of-17 passing. Daniel 'Boom' Herron added 76 yards rushing on 18 carries in his final home game as a Buckeye.

    No. 14/14t Men's Ice Hockey (10-3-1, 7-2-1-1 CCHA)

  • With 11 points combined from the trio of Alex Lippincott, Ryan Dzingel and Chris Crane, the No. 14/14t Buckeyes skated to a 6-5 win over No. 7-ranked Michigan Nov. 19 at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. The win gives the Buckeyes a two-game sweep of the Wolverines (7-5-2, 3-5-2-1 CCHA) after a 2-1 victory Nov. 18, moving their winning streak to seven and unbeaten streak to nine.

    Women's Ice Hockey (7-4-1, 7-4-1-1 WCHA)

  • Seniors Kelly Wild and Laura McIntosh were selected as captains for the 2011-12 season, head coach Nate Handrahan announced Nov. 14. Senior Natalie Spooner and junior Paige Semenza were named assistant captains. Wild, McIntosh and Spooner were assistants last season, while the honor is the first for Semenza.
  • Spooner and freshman Danielle Gagne scored two goals apiece in the Ohio State women's hockey team's 6-3 win at Syracuse Nov. 18.
  • Senior captain McIntosh scored back-to-back goals in the first period and led Ohio State to a 4-3 victory over Syracuse Nov. 19 at the Tennity Ice Pavilion in Syracuse, N.Y. The Buckeyes (7-4-1) picked up their third series sweep of the season with the win.

    Women's Soccer (12-9-2, 5-5-1 Big Ten)
    Head coach: Lori Walker

  • After defeating No. 15 Milwaukee 2-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Nov. 18, the Buckeyes dropped a 2-1 decision to top-seeded and No. 3 Duke in the third round in Durham, N.C. Nov. 20. With the loss, the Buckeyes' season comes to a close with a 12-9-2 record and a second consecutive Sweet 16 appearance.

  • Ohio State defeated Purdue 170-130 and host Iowa 163-137 in a double dual meet Nov. 18 at Iowa.
  • The Buckeyes host the Ohio State Invite December 2-4 at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

  • As of Nov. 20, Ohio State continues to lead the field at the Pitt Invitational after the second day of the weekend competition. The Buckeyes have 925 points, followed by Pitt (546), West Virginia (505), Connecticut (394), Cincinnati (205) and Michigan (110).

    No. 25 Women's Volleyball (18-13, 8-10 Big Ten)
    Head coach: Geoff Carlston

  • Ohio State dropped a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 28-26) decision to No. 8 Purdue Nov. 18 and defeated Indiana 3-0 (25-7, 25-18, 25-19) Nov. 20 in St. John Arena.
  • The Buckeyes honored seniors Kelli Barhorst and Sarah Mignin in front of 1,144 fans Nov. 20 during the match against Indiana.

    No. 10 Wrestling (4-0)
    Head coach: Tom Ryan

  • 10th-ranked Ohio State improved to 4-0 following a 21-12 victory vs. No. 15 Virginia Tech Nov. 20 in St. John Arena. Five Buckeyes scored wins in Ohio State's season home opener.
