Athletes of the Week

  • Matt Lampson earned his second-consecutive Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor after helping the Ohio State men's soccer team to a pair of wins over Oakland and conference foe Wisconsin last week. This is the eighth career weekly accolade for the junior goalkeeper, who took over second place all-time in career shutouts at Ohio State with 24, three away from the program record, following a 2-0 blanking of Wisconsin Oct. 30.

  • The best game of Braxton Miller's collegiate career - three touchdowns accounted for including a game-winning TD pass with 20 seconds to play - earned the quarterback from Huber Heights, Ohio, the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week honor. Ohio State defeated No. 15 Wisconsin, 33-29, Oct. 29 in front of the seventh-largest crowd in Ohio Stadium history, 105,511.

  • Jared Sullinger was named the Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year as voted upon by the Big Ten Media. Ohio State is also listed as the conference favorite.

  • Samantha Prahalis was named the Big Ten Preseason Co-Player of the Year as voted upon by the coaches.

  • Ohio State earned a fifth-place finish with 138 points at the 8k Big Ten championships on Oct. 30 at the Illinois Arboretum. Donny Roys led the pack finishing 19th, Taylor Williams finished 21st followed by Julian Meyer (25th), Adam Green (28th) and Chris Fallon (45th)

    No. 17 Field Hockey (11-7, 4-2 Big Ten)
    Head coach: Anne Wilkinson

  • 17th-ranked Ohio State defeated 20th-ranked Northwestern 3-1 Oct 28 at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill.
    The goals were scored by Arielle Cowie, Laura Napolitano and Danica Deckard.

  • Junior defensive lineman John Simon was named among 20 quarterfinalists for the annual Lott IMPACT Trophy.
  • Freshman quarterback Braxton Miller found classmate Devin Smith wide open for a game-winning 40-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds left to give Ohio State a thrilling 33-29 Homecoming upset of No. 11/12 Wisconsin Oct. 29 in front of 105,511 at Ohio Stadium.

  • The Buckeyes finished their fall campaign at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational recording a 924 on the par 72 course. Grant Weaver led the team finishing 10-over 226 and tied for 32nd. Dan Charen was close behind tying for 35th place.

  • Teeing off against a competitive field, Ohio State wrapped its fall slate with a third-place finish at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. Shaving eleven strokes off their second round score, the Buckeyes fired a third round of 300 to total 919 on the par 72, 6,208-yard Jack Nicklaus Course at the Country Club of Landfall.

    Men's Gymnastics
    Head coach: Rustam Sharipov

  • Brandon Wynn, a former All-American (2008-11) on the Ohio State men's gymnastics team, claimed the gold medal on rings Oct. 27 in the individual finals at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

    Men's Ice Hockey (4-3-1, 3-2-1-1 CCHA)
    Head coach: Mark Osiecki

  • The Scarlet and Gray tied Alaska 2-2 Oct. 27 in Value City Arena and then won the shootout, 2-1. Alex Carlson scored the Buckeyes first goal just 38 seconds into the third period. Ben Gallacher earned the second goal for the Buckeyes. Tanner Fritz and Chris Crane scored in the shootout.
  • The Buckeyes blanked Alaska 6-0 on Oct. 28 in Value City Arena. Ohio State got two goals from Danny Dries in a 1:46 span, followed by a score from Crane 41 seconds later for the 3-0 lead. Darik Angeli, Alex Szczechura also scored as well as another tally from Crane.

    Women's Ice Hockey (4-2-1-1)

  • Ohio State earned its first road victory of the season on Oct 28 defeating Minnesota State, 2-1 in Mankato, Minn., at All Seasons Arena. Kelly Wild tallied first with her first goal of the season. Ally Tarr recorded the game winner for the Buckeyes, her third of the season.
  • Ohio State recorded the sweep against Minnesota State on Oct 29 winning 1-0 in Mankato, Minn., at All Seasons Arena. Hokey Langan scored halfway through the third period for her second goal of the season. The shutout was the first of goalie Lisa Steffes' career.

    Men's Soccer (10-5-2, 4-1-0 Big Ten)
    Head coach: John Bluem

  • Ohio State concluded its non-conference slate with a 2-1 victory over Oakland Oct. 26 in Rochester, Mich. Kenny Cunningham struck first for Ohio State in the 16th minute to give Ohio State the 1-0 lead. Adam Gorski scored the game winner for the Buckeyes in the 63rd minute with his first career goal.
  • The Scarlet and Gray beat Wisconsin 2-0 Oct. 30 at the McClimon Complex in Madison, Wis. Chris Hegngi scored on a first-half penalty kick for his Big Ten-leading ninth goal of the season. Parnell Hegngi added an insurance goal midway through the second half for his third of the season. The Buckeyes will play for the Big Ten regular season title Nov. 5 at Indiana.

    Women's Soccer (10-8-1, 5-5-1 Big Ten)

  • Ohio State defeated Indiana 3-0 on Senior Day on Oct. 30 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Tiffany Cameron scored in the 27th minute. The Buckeyes scored again in the 42nd minute when Caitlyn Martin headed one in. The final score came in the 55th minute with a goal from Kendyl Reed.

    Men's Swimming and Diving
    Head coach: Bill Wadley and Vince Panzano

  • Ohio State started the season with an impressive 174-84 victory over Kenyon College on Oct. 28 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavillion. Ohio State claimed all events except the 200 freestyle relay.

    Women's Swimming and Diving

  • The Scarlet and Gray opened their season with a 176.5-83.5 victory over Kenyon College on Oct. 28 at the McCorckle Aquatic Pavilion. Duplicate winners for the Buckeyes were Jackie Brousseau, Phoebe Cater, Megan Detro and Shannon Draves.

    No. 23 Women's Volleyball (16-9, 6-6 Big Ten)
    Head coach: Geoff Carlston

  • 23rd-ranked Ohio State lost a 3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-17) decision to No. 1 ranked Nebraska Oct. 28 in St. John Arena in front of 1,833 fans.
  • Ohio State had a 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-16) victory over Iowa Oct. 30 in St. John Arena. Mari Hole posted a match-high 21 points with a match-high 19 kills and two aces serves.
