The Greater Columbus Sports Commission, The Ohio State University and Ohio Dominican University are proud to share the following announcement from the NCAA on the finalists for 81 of its 89 championships through 2014-2018. In September, Columbus submitted 30 individual bids for multiple years for 13 events in eight (8) sports. Columbus is tied for the second-most finalist selections of any city in the country with eight, which are outlined in the first table below. They include the NCAA Frozen Four, the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships and the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Elite Eight. Columbus also helped Ohio have the most selections of any state with 24.
We are also awaiting word from the NCAA on several regional championship bids that could increase the number of events being considered. Those events are outlined in the second table below. The only event that is no longer being considered from our original bids is the NCAA Fencing Championships for 2017. The full NCAA release is included below as well.
