COLUMBUS, Ohio - Shaun Richard will join the Ohio State athletics department as an associate athletics director for sport administration, Miechelle Willis, executive associate athletics director for student services and sport administration/senior women's administrator, announced Tuesday. Richard will have direct oversight for a number of Buckeye programs, including men's and women's hockey.
"Shaun will be a great addition to our department," Willis said. "He has broad-based experience in athletics at many levels - as a coach, in the NFL and on the intercollegiate level. He currently supervises eight sports at Colgate, including football and men's and women's hockey, and that will transition well to our fast-paced environment. His service on a number of university and conference committees, and his experiences with external relations, were a plus."
Richard joined the Colgate staff as an assistant athletics director in November 2008, was promoted to associate athletics director in July 2011 and has been associate athletics director of external operations since July 12. At Colgate, Richard oversaw all aspects of athletic sponsorships, marketing and promotions, ticket operations, sports information, athletic fundraising, branding, facilities and home event operations. He also had sport supervision of football, men's lacrosse, men's and women's hockey, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's soccer and men's golf.
"I would like to thank athletics director Gene Smith, Miechelle Willisand the entire search committee for this amazing opportunity," Richard said. "It is both humbling and exciting to be part of the Ohio State family. I look forward to being part of the continued success of the Ohio State athletic programs and working with the great coaching staffs and outstanding student-athletes who put on the Scarlet and Gray."
Prior to Colgate, Richard, a native of North Adams, Mass., worked as the operations manager for the Jason Taylor Foundation in Miami, Fla., and in the operations department for the Miami Dolphins, both as an intern and the operations assistant.
A 2003 graduate of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Richard was a two-time all-conference honoree for the Trailblazer baseball team. He has a master's degree from Springfield College, where he was a graduate associate for the athletics department as well as an assistant coach for the baseball team.
