Ohio State Athletics Good Stuff

Highlights from the past week in Ohio State Athletics

Athletes of the Week

Kassidy Suave, Women's ice hockey

  • Suave, who was seeing her first action in net since the 2014-15 season, had an impressive weekend between the pipes for the Scarlet and Gray. Suave denied the opposition 67 times during the Buckeyes first two games of the season en route to picking up two wins.

Will Grimmer, Men's golf

  • Gimmer was named the Co-Big Ten Golfer of the Week on Wednesday (Sept. 28) for his individual medalist honors at the Bearcat Invitational. Grimmer became the 47th different Buckeye to earn medalist accolades since 1974. Grimmer led the field in Par-3 and Par-4 scoring with aggregate totals of 2-under par for each hole length. He also rolled in 12 birdies during the 54-hole tournament, which was tied for the most in the field.

No. 2 Football (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten)

  • Eight different Buckeyes scampered into the end zone Saturday afternoon on their way to a 58-0 shutout over Rutgers.
  • J.T. Barrett tossed for four touchdowns on his way to breaking the school record for most in a career. Barrett, who now has 59 passing touchdowns in his time as a Buckeye, passed previous No. 1 Bobby Hoying (1992-95).
  • Three Buckeyes scored the first touchdowns of their career on Saturday; Terry McLaurin caught a 14-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, Paris Campbell scored on a five-yard carry in the third quarter and Johnnie Dixon found the end zone on a five-yard rush in the fourth quarter.
  • The shutout was Ohio State's first since blanking Hawaii 38-0 on Sept. 12, 2015. The defense is the only FBS unit in the nation to not have allowed a rushing touchdown in 2016.

No. 19 Women's Volleyball (12-4, 2-2 Big Ten)

  • The Scarlet and Gray registered its first two wins in Big Ten this past week against Northwestern (3-0) and No. 1 Nebraska (3-1).
  • After dropping the first set to No. 1 Nebraska, the Buckeyes hit the Cornhuskers with a surge that could not be matched. Ohio State captured the final three sets by tallies of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-13. The win ended Nebraska's 28-game win streak, and the Buckeyes have now won four of their last five meetings against the Cornhuskers.
  • Taylor Sandbothe was named the Big Ten Player of the Week today for the second time this season. She averaged 3.6 kills per set and 2.0 blocks per set in the two wins this past week. Valeria Leon was also named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week today for her 4.86 digs per set. Leon is now 66 digs away from tying the school record.
