COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the third set of spring Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, Ohio State sits sixth behind Stanford, UCLA, USC, Florida and Michigan.
After already receiving points Top 10 finishes from men’s tennis, men’s volleyball and women’s tennis so far this spring, men’s track and field and softball added to the Buckeyes’ tally in the latest rankings. Men’s track and field notched a 12th-place finish while the softball Buckeyes placed 16th. Big Ten Outdoor Field of the Athlete of the Year Zack Bazile highlighted the Buckeyes’ trip to Eugene by breaking the school record en route to the NCAA long jump title, marking Ohio State’s first track and field national champion in 25 years. Softball also had an impressive showing in 2018, tallying 36 wins on the way to an NCAA Regional as junior shortstop Lilli Piper garnered NFCA second team All-America honors.
The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA’s website at www.directorscup.org.
The final Division I spring standings will be released Friday, June 29.
