2016 Academic All-Big Ten Spring/At-Large Sports
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State had a league-high 187 student-athletes placed on the Academic All-Big Ten team for spring and at-large sports, the Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday. In all, 1,537 spring and at-large sports student-athletes from around the conference were recognized.
For the year, Ohio State had a conference-record 350 honorees (72 fall, 91 winter, 187 spring/at-large), breaking the old mark of 346 set by the Buckeyes in 2010.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
Senior Minori Minagawa of the women's track and field team, along with graduate students Nicole Flower of the women's tennis team and men's golfer Grant Weaver, were three of the 23 students competing in spring and at-large sports to maintain an unblemished cumulative grade-point average.
The rowing team led Ohio State's spring and at-large sports with 23 honorees, followed by women's track and field with 17, women's lacrosse with 16, synchronized swimming with 15 and women's hockey and men's lacrosse with 14 each.
