Nicolas Szerszen, Men's volleyball

  • Szerszen was nothing short of phenomenal in 2017 and he capped it off with the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament honors. Szerszen amassed 26 kills between the semis and finals to help Ohio State wins its second straight national title. In the semifinal match against Hawaii, Szerszen also mixed in five aces while serving.

Lilli Piper, Softball

  • On Saturday, Piper's 15th home run of the year set the program's single season newcomer record. She followed that up with another jack in the series finale on Sunday to bring her season total to 16. The 16 home runs ranks No. 3 in the Big Ten.

NATIONAL CHAMPS - Men's Volleyball

  • Ohio State defeated BYU in straight sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) on Saturday night in front of 8,205 fans at St. John Arena to claim its second straight national title.
  • The national title is Ohio State's third in school history (2011, 2016, 2017).
  • Nicolas Szerszen, Christy Blough, Driss Guessous, Maxime Hervoir and Blake Leeson were all named to the All-NCAA Tournament team.
  • In the finals against BYU, Szerszen obliterated 16 kills at a .480 rate while applying immense and consistent pressure from the service line, and also pacing the Scarlet & Gray with eight digs. Hervoir was responsible for a dozen points, bouncing home 10 kills and getting in on four block assists while swinging .471.
  • To get to the championship match, the Buckeyes strolled past Hawaii in straight sets (25-23, 25-18, 25-19) on Thursday night. Blough dished out 31 assists to five different attackers, navigating a .358 hitting production. Blough helped Szerszen accumulate a team-high 10 kills in the match at .409 rate.
  • The Buckeyes conclude the 2017 season with a 32-2 record.

No. 3 Men's Lacrosse (13-4)

  • Ohio State beat No. 9 Johns Hopkins on Thursday night in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament with a score of 15-13.
  • Freshman Tre Leclaire led the charge for the Buckeyes with a career-high six goals. Eric Fannell had four points on a goal and three assists, while Jake Withers won a career-high tying 20 faceoffs and had 11 groundballs. In all, 11 Buckeyes picked up at least one point in the game.
  • The Buckeyes earned the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host Loyola (Md.) on Sunday (May 14th) at 5 p.m. in Ohio Stadium.

Softball (33-15, 15-8 Big Ten)

  • The Buckeyes closed out their regular season with three victories, including two over No. 22 Illinois on Friday and Sunday.
  • Morgan Ray twirled a one-hit shutout on Wednesday to help Ohio State beat Kent State, 3-0, in the final home game of the year. After giving up a hit in the first inning, Ray struck out five to stifle the Golden Flashes. Taylor White plated two runs with a two-out double and Emily Clark drove home the game's third run with a RBI single in the fifth.
  • On Friday in the series opener against Illinois, White provided the biggest hit of the game - a first-inning grand slam - and made two key defensive plays in the fifth inning to help keep the potent Illinois offense at bay while Morgan Ray came on to record the final three outs of the game for her second save of the season. White's grand slam was part of a five-RBI effort that now gives her 32 in 21 Big Ten games.
  • Lilli Piper hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the seventh inning to back up a four-hit gem from Shelby McCombs as Ohio State earned a 3-2 win over Illinois on Sunday to win the series. Piper's 16th blast of the year in the top of the seventh, put the Buckeyes ahead for good.
