Spring 2017 Student-Athlete Graduates
Columbus, Ohio - On Sunday, 165 current and former Ohio State student-athletes will receive their degrees inside of Ohio Stadium. The spring semester commencement is scheduled to begin at noon and will be livestreamed here.
Leading the class are Big Ten Medal of Honor recipients Emma Baranski (synchronized swmming) and Christy Blough (men's volleyball). Baranski will receive her degree in art education and Blough will be graduating with a biomedical engineering degree.
Baranski completed her tremendous career as a four-time All-American and is the back-to-back solo national champion. She also won a duet national title, was part of two team event national titles, is a technical event national champion and helped lead the Buckeyes to a pair of overall national titles.
Blough steered the Ohio State men's volleyball program to the 2016 NCAA national championship, and has positioned the Buckeyes as the 2017 NCAA Tournament's number one seed. He ranks inside the Top 5 all-time in school history with over 4,000 career assists to his name. The 2016 AVCA All-America Second Team selection jumped up to the first team for Academic All-America squad. Blough cleaned up at the 2017 OSU Scholar-Athlete Banquet, named the recipient of both the Corwin A. Fergus Memorial Award and Varsity O Scholarship, in addition to his finalist status for the Big Ten Medal of Honor.
Aina Cid I Centelles of women's rowing will be graduating with a degree in exercise science. Cid I Centelles represented Spain at the Rio Olympics in the women's pair with and placed sixth in the finals. In her time as a Buckeye, she has won three national team titles and three national boat titles (1V8 twice and 1V4). Cid I Centelles and the rowing team are currently ranked No. 5 in the NCAA and will look to win their fifth-consecutive Big Ten title next weekend (May 13-14).
Lindsay Agnew (environment, economy, development and sustainability major) and Nichelle Prince (sport industry major) of women's soccer were both selected by members of the National Women's Soccer League in January. Prince, an Ajax, Ontario, native, and 2016 second team All-Big Ten pick, finished third on the team in 2016 with five goals while ranking second with five assists and 15 points after missing the first two matches of the season while earning a bronze medal representing Canada at the Olympics. Agnew, from Dublin, Ohio, was a second team All-Big Ten selection in 2016 after leading the Buckeyes with 10 goals and eight assists. The co-captain and 2016 CoSIDA second team Academic All-American concluded her career fourth in program history with 19 assists, tied for 13th with 55 career points and 15th with 17 career goals.
Jake Withers, an economics major, graduates from the men's lacrosse team. Withers career is highlighted by two Big Ten Specialist of the Year honors (2016 and 2017) and he is the school record holder in ground balls scooped up with 308. The faceoff specialist has won Ohio State possession 62.9 percent (580 of 922) of the time during his career.
Nathan Tomasello (wrestling) finished out the 2017 campaign with a 24-1 record and his third place finish at the NCAA Championships aided Ohio State's runner-up finish. Tomasello has earned three All-America honors, two third place finishes at the NCAA Championships and was the 2015 NCAA champion at 125 lbs. He's 84-6 in his three years as a starter and has one season of eligibility left. Tomasello's degree is in sport industry.
Billy Price (football) was a 2016 American Football Coaches Association First Team-All American. With one year of eligibility remaining, Price is slated to become a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Buckeyes. He is a two-time captain for the program and enters the 2017 season having started 41 consecutive games and is positioned to set school records for most starts and most games played. Price's degree is in operational management.
Liz Li of women's swimming will graduate with a degree in sport industry. Li is currently a nine-time All-American and holds the school record in both the 50 freestyle (21.29), 100 butterfly (50.90) and 100 freestyle (47.50). She is a four-time Big Ten champion with two titles in the 50 freestyle and one apiece in the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle.
