Athletes of the Week
  • The Ohio State men's gymnastics team had an outstanding night at the 2012 NCAA Individual Event Finals April 21 at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla., seeing five members in senior Ty Echard, sophomores Misha Koudinov, Kris Done and Michael Newburger and freshman Danny Steiner earn All-America honors. The five 2012 All-Americans ties the single-season program record with the 1993 and 2002 campaigns, respectively.

  • The Ohio State women's gymnastics team had an impressive trip to the NCAA Championship April 20 in Duluth, Ga. The team recorded the fifth Top 10 finish in program history behind All-Americans Sarah Miller and Colleen Dean. Miller earned second-team All-America honors on balance beam and floor exercise while Dean garnered second-team All-America honors on floor exercise. The duo became the seventh and eighth All-Americans in Ohio State women's gymnastics history. It is the first time the Buckeyes have had multiple All-Americans in the same season.

  • Ohio State dropped a 3-2 decision to Xavier April 17 at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
  • Ohio State fell to Cincinnati, 6-5, April 18 at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
  • Ohio State dropped a 9-1 decision to Illinois on a blustery April 20 at Illinois Field.
  • Ohio State fell to Illinois, 8-3, April 21 at Illinois Field.
  • Ohio State topped Illinois, 10-4, April 22 at Illinois Field.

    Football
    Head coach: Urban Meyer

  • Ohio State's Scarlet team defeated the Gray team, 20-14, April 21 on a nippy, gray afternoon at Ohio Stadium in the 2012 LiFE Sports Spring Game. Braxton Miller threw for 258 yards and Rod Smith capped his 47-yard rushing day with a winning touchdown run from seven yards out.

    No. 22 Women's Golf
    Head coach: Therese Hession

  • With a team total of 894, No. 22 Ohio State closed regular season play with a win at their own Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus. The Buckeyes tallied a third round score of 289 at the par 72, 6,268-yard Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club to secure their win by a 16-stroke margin over second-place Michigan State.

    No. 7 Men's Gymnastics

  • Seven members of the Ohio State men's gymnastics team advanced in the 2012 NCAA Championships April 19 during the NCAA qualifier at the Lloyd Noble Center. The Buckeyes notched a 345.350 in the first session of the team qualifier but finished fourth behind Michigan (353.450), Penn State (353.000) and Stanford (348.500) who all advanced to the NCAA team final at 8 p.m. ET Friday in Norman, Okla.
  • Ohio State saw all seven of its qualifying members advance to the 2012 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Individual Event Finals April 20 at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla.

  • No. 12 Ohio State recorded a 196.525 to place fourth in the second session of the NCAA Championship semifinals April 20 in Gwinnett Arena. Sarah Miller earned second-team All-America honors on balance beam and floor exercise while Colleen Dean garnered second-team All-America honors on floor exercise. The duo became the seventh and eighth All-Americans in Ohio State women's gymnastics history. It is the first time the Buckeyes have had multiple All-Americans in the same season.
  • Carey Fagan, Ohio State women's gymnastics head coach, was named National Coach of the Year, the NACGC/W announced. In addition, assistant coaches Bill Lorenz and Meredith Yonushonis earned Co-Assistant Coach of the Year honors.

    Men's Lacrosse (7-6, 4-1 ECAC)

  • Ohio State clinched a spot in the ECAC tournament with a 14-4 win over Air Force April 21 in the fifth annual Showdown in the Shoe in Ohio Stadium in front of 19,213 fans. More than 30,000 fans were in the stands by the end of the lacrosse game, as the Buckeye football team played the LiFE Sports Spring Game following.

    No. 12 Women's Lacrosse (10-4, 1-3 ALC)

  • Alayna Markwordt and Jackie Cifarelli tallied seven points apiece as 12th-ranked Ohio State downed American, 14-4, April 21 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

    Softball (27-18, 6-8 Big Ten)
    Head coach: Linda Kalafatis

  • Ohio State swept a doubleheader against Ohio April 18at Buckeye Field. The Buckeyes (26-16, 5-6 Big Ten) won game one, 9-5, before claiming a 13-3 run-rule victory in five innings in game two.
  • In its third home conference series, Ohio State fell in a doubleheader against Nebraska April 21 night at Buckeye Field.
  • Sophomore Melanie Nichols led Ohio State to a 4-0 victory vs. Nebraska April 22 after throwing a three-hit, complete-game shutout at Buckeye Field.

    No. 3 Men's Tennis (29-2, 11-0 Big Ten)
    Head coach: Ty Tucker

  • Behind three doubles wins and six straight-set singles victories, No. 3 Ohio State shut out Purdue 7-0 to clinch a share of the Big Ten regular-season title April 18 at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind. The 2012 title is the Buckeyes' seventh-consecutive.
  • Before honoring Chase Buchanan and Steven Williams on senior day, No. 3 Ohio State captured its seventh-consecutive outright Big Ten regular-season title with a 6-1 victory over No. 21 Michigan April 22 at the outdoor Varsity Tennis Courts.

    Women's Tennis (9-15, 4-7 Big Ten)

  • Ohio State swept doubles and earned five singles victories to pick up a conference win against Michigan State, 6-1, at home in windy conditions April 20 at the Ohio State University Varsity Outdoor Tennis Courts. The match, the Buckeyes' last regular-season contest at home, was also Senior Day for the team's lone senior, Kelsey Haviland, who was honored in a post-match ceremony.
  • Ohio State dropped its final regular-season contest to No. 14 Michigan, 5-2, on the road in Ann Arbor, Mich., April 22.

    Men's Track and Field
    Interim head coach: Ed Beathea

  • Ohio State captured the 2012 All-Ohio Outdoor Track and Field Championship April 21 at Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio. With a combined score of 160.83, the Buckeyes finished 12.50 points ahead of second place Akron (148.33) and 47.50 ahead of third place and host Miami (104).

    No. 8/10 Men's Volleyball (19-8, 9-3 MIVA)
    Head coach: Pete Hanson

  • Shawn Sangrey and Michael Piechowski were honored by the MIVA this week for their performances on the court last weekend. Sangrey was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Piechowski was named Defensive Player of the Week. The honor is the fifth of the season for Sangrey, while it's the first for Piechowski.
  • Sangrey was named the 2012 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's Player of the Year, the league announced April 20. It marks the third consecutive year a Buckeye has won the MIVA's top honor and it's the 20th in the program's history.

    Wrestling
    Head coach: Tom Ryan

  • Andrew Campolattano, who concluded his freshman season last month, won the 211.5 (96 kg) title at the 2012 FILA Junior Freestyle National Championships April 14 in Madison, Wis. The Buckeye from Bound Brook, N.J., beat Minnesota's Scott Schiller in the final 1-0, 2-1.
