Athletes of the Week
  • Senior opposite Shawn Sangrey celebrated senior night April 13 with a dominating offensive performance vs. MIVA opponent IPFW in Columbus. The Columbia, Pa., product led the Buckeyes to a 3-1 win over the Mastodons that sealed a share of the MIVA regular season title. Sangrey tallied his third 30-kill performance of the season in the win, totaling 31 kills over four sets played for a 7.75 kills per set average. He also added 12 digs in the match for his third straight double-double and seventh overall this season. Sangrey also had three service aces and one block assist for the Buckeyes. He averaged 8.62 points per set in the win.

  • Men's lacrosse senior defenseman Keenan Ochwat, the Buckeyes' leader on defense this season, had a standout game for the Buckeyes in their 12-9 win at Michigan in the Big House April 14. As a close defenseman, he had an outstanding seven groundballs to set his career high and recorded two caused turnovers while holding the player he covered to just one assist on the day. Ochwat has a team-best 23 caused turnovers on the year, along with 29 groundballs. He is 13th in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game.

  • Outfielder Patrick Porter has been named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced April 9. The award, which is shared with Reid Roper of Illinois, is the second Big Ten weekly award for the Buckeyes this season after Josh Dezse was named Big Ten Player of the Week Feb. 20.
  • Ohio State held on to defeat Ohio, 6-5, on a cold and windy April 10 at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
  • Ohio State defeated Akron, 7-2, April 11 at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
  • Ohio State plated seven runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 10-2 victory over Nebraska April 11 at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
  • Ohio State fell to Nebraska in both games of a doubleheader, 5-4 and 17-9, April 15 at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.

    Football

  • Inclement weather forced Ohio State facilities and operations personnel to move the student-centered practice indoors April 14, but that didn't dampen the crowd or the enthusiasm. Approximately 3,100 students and staff showed up for a hard hitting, two-hour practice that was full of ooohs and aaahs and included a live field goal drill with hundreds of fans on the field surrounding the action.

  • After battling through a very wet opening day of action at the 42nd-annual Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, the Ohio State men's golf team returned to the green April 15 and finished in a fifth-place tie. The Buckeyes posted a 26-over 310 during the third round of play, to end the tournament with a 57-over 909 total.

    No. 7 Men's Gymnastics

  • No. 7 Ohio State has been selected to advance to the 2012 NCAA Men's Gymnastics National Qualifier, the NCAA Men's Gymnastics committee announced April 10. The national qualifier, which consists of two pre-qualifying sessions, will be conducted April 19 at Lloyd Noble Center on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.

    Men's Lacrosse (6-6, 3-1 ECAC)

  • Dominique Alexander, a junior midfielder on the Ohio State men's lacrosse team, has been named the ECAC Lacrosse League Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced April 9.
  • Ohio State defeated Michigan, 12-9, in the first meeting between the teams as varsity programs April 14. The game, dubbed the Battle at the Big House, was played in Michigan Stadium in front of 4,458 fans.

    No. 10 Women's Lacrosse (9-4, 1-3 ALC)

  • Alayna Markwordt, a senior attacker on the 10th-ranked Ohio State women's lacrosse team, was named Offensive Player of the Week by the American Lacrosse Conference.
  • 10th-ranked Ohio State fell to No. 13 Penn State, 15-12, in an ALC showdown April 15 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

    No. 6 Rowing

  • Ohio State's First Varsity Eight has been named the Big Ten Conference Co-Boat of the Week the league announced April 10. Ohio State shares the honor with Michigan's First Varsity Eight. It is the first weekly laurel for the Buckeyes this season and first since 2009.
  • No. 6 Ohio State downed Oklahoma, Oregon State and Tennessee by winning 12 out of 14 races April 14 on Belleville Lake in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Buckeyes won all six races en route to defeating the Sooners and then earned six victories over the Beavers and Lady Volunteers.

  • With the bat of freshman Maddy McIntyre, Ohio State defeated Dayton, 3-2, in a comeback win April 11 at Buckeye Field.
  • Ohio State fell in a doubleheader at Purdue April 15 at the Varsity Softball Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. The Buckeyes fell short in game one, 2-1, while dropping game two, 8-3, vs. the Boilermakers.

    No. 2 Men's Tennis (27-2, 8-0 Big Ten)

  • No. 2 Ohio State defeated No. 23 Illinois 7-0 April 13 at the Varsity Indoor Tennis Center in front of 326 fans.
  • No. 2 Ohio State netted a 5-2 win over No. 46 Northwestern April 15 at the outdoor Varsity Tennis Courts. The victory over the Wildcats extended Ohio State's conference win streak to 88 matches.

    Women's Tennis (8-14, 3-6 Big Ten)

  • Ohio State fell to No. 23 Illinois, 4-3, on the road in Champaign, Ill., April 13.
  • Ohio State dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 11-ranked Northwestern Sunday afternoon in Evanston, Ill. The Wildcats won the doubles points and the first four singles matches off the court for the Big Ten Conference victory.

  • Ohio State put a wrap on the 27th edition of the Jesse Owens Track Classic April 14 at a rain-soaked Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes earned wins in a total of six events, including victories in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Despite the steady rain, the meet was complete on time and without interruption.

  • Ohio State put on a strong showing at a rainy Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium April 14. Even in the wet and cooler conditions, several Buckeyes turned in PR's and first-place performances in front of the home fans.

  • Grayson Overman was awarded with his second consecutive MIVA Defensive Player of the Week honor, the league announced April 9. It is the second of the season and the third of his career.
  • No. 8/10 Ohio State captured is sixth consecutive MIVA regular season title with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23) victory over conference rival IPFW April 13 in St. John Arena.
  • No. 8/10 Ohio State swept George Mason (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) April 15 in Fairfax, Va.
