Athletes of the Week

Beatrice Hannan/Karrington Winters/Aaliyah Barnes/Maggie Barrie, women's track and field

  • This foursome became the first women's indoor 4x400m relay team to earn First Team All-America honors at the NCAA Championships this weekend. Entering with the slowest seed time, the Buckeyes ran faster times than six other squads to place sixth. Ohio State crossed the finish line with a time of 3:31.23 for a school record.

Jake Withers, men's lacrosse

  • Withers' third groundball of the game on Saturday against Cleveland State was a record breaker, as he became the all-time leader in groundballs in program history with 239. Withers passed Anthony Kelly, who had 238 from 2000-03. A Buckeye captain this year, Withers won all four faceoffs he took in the game and had three groundballs.

No. 2 Women's Tennis (14-1)

No. 15 Men's Hockey (20-10-6, 11-8-1 Big Ten)

  • Ohio State swept the weekend series against No. 16 Wisconsin this weekend outscoring the Badgers 8-2.
  • On Friday night, the Buckeyes got two goals from Drew Brevig and David Gust in the first 20 minutes and never looked back. At 7:04 of the second Dakota Joshua extended the lead to 3-0. The Badgers answered less than three minutes later with a power play goal, but Ohio State scored once more in the period for a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes. Mason Jobst scored the lone goal of the third on the power play at 7:36. Buckeye senior goalie Matt Tomkins made 14 of his 28 saves in the final stanza.
  • On Saturday, the Scarlet and Gray led 1-0 just 2:46 into the game when Jobst scored on the power play. The lead grew to 3-0 after 40 minutes, with Kevin Miller and Brendon Kearney (shorthanded) scoring in the second. Tomkins had 27 saves in the game, including nine in the third period.

Men's Lacrosse (7-0)

  • Ohio State beat Cleveland State, 12-4, on Saturday afternoon in Ohio Stadium.
  • Two-goal performances from Austin Seiple and Tre Leclaire fueled the offense and Tom Carey saved seven of 10 shots and Nick Doyle closed it out with two saves.
  • Jake Withers passed Anthony Kelly for the school record in groundballs. Withers scooped up three groundballs in the game for the record.

Softball (10-6)

  • The Buckeyes picked up three wins this weekend down in Orlando, Fla. In their three wins, they outscored their opponents 19-0.
  • On Friday against UCF, Lena Springer stymied her former team scattering six hits over five innings while striking out four to win her third game of the year. Lilli Piper provided the biggest hit, a grand slam in the top of the fourth that made the score 8-0. Piper had six RBI in the game, which is tied with six other players for the third most in single-game school history.
  • Against Delaware State, Shelby McCombs and Morgan Ray combined on a two-hit 7-0 shutout, and that performance was backed up at the plate by nine different players who recorded hits.
  • In the weekend final against Mercer, Shelby Hursh fanned 10 batters and didn't allow a hit after the fifth inning to register her team-leading sixth win of the year. Bri Betschel went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and run scored.
