BTN's Men's Basketball Slate This Week Includes Four of the Five Ranked Big Ten Teams
Four of the Big Ten's five ranked teams will be in action this week on BTN, including No. 1 Indiana, which remained atop the AP Poll for the second-consecutive week. The Hoosiers host Nebraska in game one of tonight's "Super Wednesday" doubleheader, followed by Purdue at Illinois. Coverage begins at 6:30 PM ET on the Big Ten Tip-Off Show, presented by Auto-Owners Insurance.
Tip-off from Bloomington is at 7 PM ET, with Eric Collins and Shon Morris on the call, and Stephanie White reporting from the sideline. On Sunday, Victor Oladipo scored a career-high 26 points, Cody Zeller added 24 and Christian Watford finished with 20 to help lead the Hoosiers past Ohio State for a 81-68 road win. Indiana shot 53 percent from the field, the highest by any Ohio State opponent this season. The victory was Indiana's first road win against a Top-10 conference opponent since 1993. Versus Penn State on Saturday, Nebraska snapped its two-game losing streak with a 67-53 win. Dylan Talley had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Brandon Ubel added 14 points to go along with nine rebounds. By attacking the rim and drawing fouls, the Huskers set season highs in both free throws attempted and made by going 32-of-41 from the line.
The doubleheader continues at 9 PM ET with Illinois hosting Purdue. Josh Lewin and Tim Doyle will have the call from Champaign. On Sunday, just three days after Tyler Griffey's buzzer-beating layup sunk the Hoosiers, Tracy Abrams drained a step-back three-pointer with 18 seconds left to secure the win over Minnesota. Griffey scored 16, D.J. Richardson had 13, and as a team the Illini connected on 11-of-23 from beyond the arc. A different player has now led the team in scoring each of the last five games. The Boilermakers have dropped three of their past four games, but have won eight in a row over Illinois. In Saturday's loss to Michigan State, Terone and Ronnie Johnson combined for 35 points.
At 7 PM ET on Thursday, No. 13 Ohio State hosts Northwestern. Dave Revsine and Jim Jackson will have the call. With the loss to Indiana, the Buckeyes have now dropped two in a row. Ohio State had gone a nation's-best 121 games without losing back-to-back outings prior to Sunday. Deshaun Thomas, the Big Ten's leading scorer and an Indiana native, had 26 points for Ohio State. Aaron Craft and LaQuinton Ross added 16 and 11, respectively. On Saturday, Northwestern fell 71-57 to Iowa. Reggie Hearn finished with a team-high 13 points, while Jared Swopshire had eight points and seven rebounds before missing almost the entire second half due to injury. On Tuesday, it was announced Swopshire will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
At 8 PM ET on Saturday, No. 8 Michigan State faces Nebraska. Kevin Kugler and Tim Doyle will be in Lincoln with the call. On Tuesday, the Spartans took control of first place in the Big Ten with their 75-52 victory over Michigan. Michigan State didn't trail once, and led by as many as 30 in the second half. Gary Harris hit five three-pointers and scored a team-high 17 points, while Derrick Nix controlled the paint with 14 points.
In the first of three games on Sunday, No. 4 Michigan hosts Penn State at noon ET. Tom Hamilton and Morris will call the game. In the loss to Michigan State on Tuesday, the Wolverines committed a season-high 16 turnovers, and allowed the Spartans to score 18 second-chance points. Trey Burke led Michigan with 18 points and Nik Stauskas added 10. Against Nebraska on Saturday, D.J. Newbill and Jermaine Marshall combined for 33 of the Nittany Lions' 53 points.
At 2 PM ET, Iowa hosts Minnesota. Brian Anderson and Sean Harrington will have the call. The Hawkeyes look to avenge their three-point loss to the Gophers from earlier this month. On Saturday, Roy Devyn Marble ended his slump by hitting 8-of-13 shots from the field en route to a game-high 21 points. The Hawkeyes converted the Wildcats' 12 turnovers into 17 points, and outscored Northwestern 36-24 in the paint. Minnesota enters having lost its previous two games. On Sunday versus Illinois, Trevor Mbakwe had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Austin Hollins finished with a team-high 16 points.
The third and final game of the day tips off at 7:30 PM ET, with Northwestern hosting Illinois in a battle for state bragging rights. In this season's first meeting back on Jan. 17, the Wildcats knocked off the Illini 68-54 in Champaign. Collins and Mike Kelley will have the call.
All televised games will also be available on BTN2Go.
Huskers Host Buckeyes, Wolverines Welcome Spartans in Women's Hoops this Week on BTN
This week BTN will televise three women's basketball games, and stream an additional four games on the Big Ten Digital Network (BTDN).
On Thursday, host Dara McIntosh and analyst LaChina Robinson preview the upcoming games on the Women's Sports Report at 6 PM ET.
At 9 PM ET, Nebraska hosts Ohio State. Kevin Kugler and Stephanie White will have the call. The Huskers have won six in a row, including a 76-75 win over Iowa on Monday. Jordan Hooper poured in 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting to lead Nebraska, and captured her second straight Big Ten Player-of-the-Week honors. The Buckeyes will also look to extend their current win streak after defeating Northwestern on Sunday for their third-consecutive win. Against the Wildcats, Tayler Hill scored a game-high 26 points and had six steals. Darryce Moore pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked three shots off the bench for the Buckeyes.
On Saturday, Michigan hosts rival Michigan State at noon ET. Lisa Byington and White will call the action. The Wolverines enter having won two in a row after knocking off Purdue 67-56 on Sunday. In West Lafayette, Michigan made 9-of-17 from beyond the arc, including six three-pointers by Kate Thompson. Thompson finished with 22 points, four rebounds and three assists. Nya Jordan added 16 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double in the last three games. The Spartans won this season's first matchup versus the Wolverines, but have struggled to win on the road. Michigan State will also be in action on Wednesday night against the Hoosiers, with live coverage on BTDN.
The third televised game of the week features Wisconsin at Illinois on Monday with tip-off at 7:30 PM ET. Byington and White will have the call, and Kara Lentz will report from courtside. Illinois will be seeking a season sweep after beating the Badgers at the Kohl Center earlier this month.
All televised games will also be available on BTN2Go.
Men's and Women's Gymnastics Live on BTN Saturday
BTN will televise men's and women's gymnastics live on Saturday.
Coverage begins at 2:30 PM ET, when No. 5 Ohio State men's gymnastics hosts No. 3 Michigan. Mike Wolf and John Roethlisberger will have the call from St. John Arena in Columbus. On Monday, Michigan sophomore Adrian de los Angeles was named Big Ten Men's Gymnast of the Week after finishing second in the all-around at the Winter Cup Challenge over the weekend. His performance also earned him a spot on the United States National Team. In its first dual meet of the season, the Buckeyes fell to top-ranked Penn State.
Gymnastics coverage continues at 5 PM ET when Michigan State women's gymnastics hosts No. 19 Ohio State. Jim Kelly and Kylee Kolarik will call the action. Despite a season-high point total, Ohio State fell to No. 3 Michigan last weekend. Also over the weekend, Michigan State finished second in its tri-meet with Iowa and the University of Illinois-Chicago.
