Junior Bo Hoag shoots 4-under in final round to lead Ohio State comeback

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's golf team jumped seven spots to finish in sixth place at the sixth-annual Memphis Intercollegiate Tuesday. The Buckeyes battled back with the second-lowest team score of the event, a 3-over 291, to climb up the leaderboard with junior Bo Hoag's 4-under 68 leading the charge.

The tournament was held on the par 72, 7,259 yard South Course at the Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tenn. Ohio State finished the tournament with a team score of 905 in the 16-team field, one stroke ahead of Big Ten foe Wisconsin, tournament host Memphis and Mississippi State.

South Alabama took the team title shooting 18-over 882. Their effort was lead by medalist Marc-Ettienne Bussieres who fired 9-under 207 for the Jaguars.

The Buckeyes opened the day by finishing their second rounds after play was called Monday night because of darkness. After struggling in the opening round with a score of 316, the team quickly bounced back in round two. Ohio State shaved 18 strokes from their first round tally with a 298 but the team was still in 13th place heading into the round day of play.

In his first collegiate event, Matthew Turner led the Buckeyes at 9-over 225. The freshman from Dubai fired 76-76-73 to finish in a tie for 24th place. He closed the event with a steady round in which he made par on 13 holes and battled back from 3-over with birdies on two of his last seven holes.

Just behind Turner was Hoag with a total of 226 to tie for 26th. The Upper Arlington native roared back from his tough opening round to finish with the second-lowest score of the event with a 68. Hoag had five birdies in the round and his only hiccup was a bogey on the par 3 No. 5.

Alex Redfield carded a 5-over 77 on the final day to add to his earlier rounds of 76-74 and finish in a tie for 32nd. The sophomore from Columbus posted an 11-over 227 in his first team event of the season.

Sophomore Michael Kinkopf tallied a 229 to finish in a tie for 39th. The Hilliard sophomore fired 1-over 73, with two birdies in his last five holes, in his final round for the Buckeyes.

Finishing out the Buckeye lineup was Dan Charen who placed 89th with a sum of 248.

The Buckeyes will conclude their fall season Nov. 9-11 in San Martin, Calif., at the Corde Valle Collegiate.
