The 2008-09 academic year proved to be a productive one all around for Ohio State student-athletes.
"We are proud our student-athletes are striving just as hard in the classroom and in the community as they are on their chosen field of competition," David Graham, director of Ohio State Student-Athlete Support Services, said. "They are determined to become the best student-athlete they can be while representing The Ohio State University."
193 Buckeye student-athletes graduated during the year and the overall student grade point average sat at 3.07. A record 494 Buckeyes were named Ohio State Scholar-Athletes (3.0 GPA or better) and a league-best 73 were honored as Big Ten Conference Distinguished Scholars.
Ohio State led the Big Ten as 306 Buckeyes were named Academic All-Big Ten. In addition, four were named ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-Americans including Brian Robiskie (football), Jake Bateman (men's gymnastics), Sean Moore (men's swimming and diving) and Liana Bonanno (women's ice hockey).
Ohio State student-athletes put in more than 25,000 hours at study tables and more than 10,000 hours at tutoring sessions.
Buckeyes also participated in many student development and life skills events including the third annual Buckeyes Got Talent which helped raise $5,492 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus. Student-athletes also raised money in events such as the Adopt-A-Family project and the Mother's Day 5K.
