Ohio State in 13th with 18 holes to play on CordeValle in California

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's golf team was led by junior Michael Cress and senior Brad Wright with rounds of 70 as the squad totaled 6-over 366 in the second round of the Gilford Collegiate Championship Tuesday. The Buckeyes are in 13th place with a team score of 734 (+14) with a scoring format of 6-count-5 on the par 72, 7,169-yard CordeValle Golf Course in San Martin, Calif.

Stanford took over the lead at 16-under after 36 holes, edging second-place Oklahoma State and Duke by a stroke. Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein has a two-stroke lead in the individual standings with a total of 11-under 133.

Cress followed his opening round of even-par with a score of 2-under. The Dublin, Ohio, native had three birdies on the front nine, including back-to-back ones on his first two holes, and added two more on the back nine. After bogeys on Nos. 4 and 5, Cress carded just one more on the par 4 No. 13 in his last 13 holes of the day. He leads the Buckeyes in a tie for 19th at 142.

Wright, from Cambridge, Ohio, shaved nine strokes off his first round to bounce back on day two. He had a solid round with three birdies and made par on 14 holes - his only hiccup was a bogey on No. 13. With a total of 5-over 149, Wright is tied for 66th.

Freshman Matthew Turner carded a 74 with two birdies and four bogeys in his round. The native of Dubai, UAE, is tied for 52nd with a sum of 147 (+3).

Also with a 74 was junior Bo Hoag. The Upper Arlington, Ohio, product started out strong with an eagle on the par 5 No. 6 and a birdie on the ninth hole to make the turn at 3-under. Hoag had a tougher time on the back nine, with three bogeys and a double-bogey to close out the day. It was his second-consecutive round of 2-over to tie for 61st at 148.

Tied with Hoag is redshirt-freshman Jamie Sindelar. After opening with a team-best 70 in his first round of team collegiate action, the Horseheads, N.Y., native had a difficult time carrying that into day two with a 78. He tallied eight bogeys, but was able to chip away at them with birdies on Nos. 4 and 18.

Rounding out the Buckeye lineup is rookie Johnny Henno in 88th. The native of Solvang, Calif., has rounds of 81-79 back in his home state.

The Gilford Collegiate Championship at CordeValle, Ohio State's final fall tournament, concludes Wednesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (PT). Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com.
