COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State earned its third-consecutive shutout and sixth consecutive win, downing Toledo 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

"I felt that we came out pretty flat in the first half," head coach Lori Walker said. "It was good to see that we could still win without playing our best game. Our depth was definitely the difference for us."

In a physical first half where defense was the story, neither team was able to muster up many scoring opportunities.

The best chance for the Buckeyes came in the 7th minute when a strike by junior Courtney Jenkins was deflected just over the crossbar by Toledo keeper Vicki Traven. The Rockets responded less than two minutes later when Ali Leak slipped behind the Ohio State defense but her shot from just inside the 18-yard box slid wide right.

It would not take long for Ohio State to get on the board after halftime as Jenkins drilled a free kick from 40 yards out that sailed over Traven's outstretched arms and into the back of the net less than five minutes into the half.

The Buckeyes would keep the pressure on with six shots in the opening 15 minutes and would have increased the lead had it not been for three excellent saves by Traven on shots by Lauren Steuer.

With just under 18 minutes left to play, Ohio State would tack on an insurance goal as freshman Karin Sendel scored her first career goal after a nice give-and-go with senior Ashley Bowyer.

For the game, the Buckeyes outshot the Rockets 23-4 and 8-2 on goal. Ohio State also held an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks.

The Buckeyes will have a week off before opening up Big Ten play against Michigan at 1 p.m. Sunday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
