SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Ohio State edged Southern California, 1-0, on a penalty kick goal by junior Cassie Dickerson in the Buckeye's final match of the USD Nike Classic Sunday afternoon in San Diego.

The Buckeyes were awarded a penalty kick in the 79th minute after freshman Lauren Granberg was tripped up by USC goalkeeper Kristin Olsen. After the penalty kick was given to the Buckeyes, Olsen was given a red card resulting in her ejection from the match.

Dickerson would then cash in on the penalty kick, the first goal of her career, against USC substitute goalkeeper Brittany Massro to give the Buckeyes the 1-0 lead with just over ten minutes left to play.

The Trojans had a few chances late in the match but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net as Ohio State came away with the win.

The match proved to be very physical as the two teams combined for 21 fouls and the Trojans were booked for both a yellow card and a red on Olsen.

Eight different Buckeyes had a shot on goal as Ohio State out-shot USC 11-8 and 8-2 on goal, continuing to put relentless pressure on opponent keepers. Ohio State also had nine corner kick opportunities compared to just one for the Trojans and senior goalkeeper Lauren Robertson picked up her fourth shutout of the season for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes (3-1-1) will travel to Las Vegas to take on UNLV at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday before returning home for a 7:30 p.m. contest against Youngstown State on Friday.
