COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rifle team hosted the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference championships last weekend, winning both the smallbore and air rifle championships. The Buckeyes scored a 2,246 for the smallbore title with Akron finishing second at 2,232. OSU won the air title with a 1,522 with Morehead State finishing second at 1,524.
Ohio State’s James Clark (Fr., Woburn, Mass.) finished first in the air rifle competition with a 390. Elizabeth Lyon of Morehead State was second at 389. Lyon was first in smallbore with a 583. Clark and Jasmine Margaria (Fr., Avella, Pa.) tied for third at 564.
All-Conference honors for the Buckeyes included Clark being named first team in both smallbore and air rifle. Steven Nozaki (Jr., Hilo, Hawaii) was named to the first team air rifle. Jasmine Margaria (Fr., Avella, Pa.) received second team smallbore honors with Kelly Lake (Sr., Cleves, Ohio) named to the air second team.
Additional team awards included Ohio State winning the Ranta Trophy Postal for air rifle and Akron winning the Swanson Trophy Postal for smallbore rifle.
