Fencing: Buckeyes Sweep OSU Duals to Begin 2008-09 Season

Buckeye men and women combine to go 22-0 in first action of 2008-09

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The defending national champion Ohio State fencing team swept the OSU Duals for the sixth-consecutive season Saturday, combining to go 22-0 as a team. It was the first action of the 2008-09 season for the Buckeyes and also their first team appearance since winning the NCAA Championship in April.

Leading the way for Ohio State was the men’s and women’s foil units, which each went 98-1 against competition on the day. The men’s sabre team was 88-11 on the day, while the women’s sabre team was 95-4. The epee teams also turned in good performances, with the men going 92-7 and the women going 96-3.

The Buckeyes return to collegiate competition Jan. 10 at the Detroit Duals in Detroit, Mich. The next non-collegiate event for the Scarlet and Gray is the Junior North American Cup November 7-10 in St. Louis, Mo.
