• Ohio State held Coppin State to just 39 points Monday, which is the lowest point total for an OSU opponent in the shot clock era and the lowest since Delaware was held to 38 points Jan. 11, 1960 in St. John Arena.
• With the win, Ohio State is now 12-0 all-time against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The Buckeyes are also now 3-0 against Coppin State.
• Evan Turner made his first career start Monday. The freshman made the most of the opportunity, connecting on his first shot attempt – a three-pointer from the corner. Turner either scored or assisted on Ohio State’s first three baskets.
• Turner also scored a career-high 13 points, to tie the Buckeyes’ game high with Jamar Butler. Turner connected on his first three 3-point field goal attempts.
• The Buckeyes held Coppin State without a field for until the 15:37 mark of the first half. Ohio State held the Eagles to just 36.0 percent (9-25) shooting in the first half. For the game, Coppin State shot just 35.6 percent (16-45) for the game and just 25 percent (3-12) from behind the arc. The Buckeyes held the Eagles to just 17 second half points.
• Ohio State shot 41.7 percent (5-12) from the 3-point line in the first half, while holding Coppin State to just 28.6 percent (2-7) from behind the arc.
• At the helm of the Buckeyes, Matta is 37-6 in regular-season non-conference games.
• Ohio State has held its opponents to 70 or fewer points in 37 of its last 45 games.
• P.J. Hill set a career high in assists with three. Each was handed out in the first half.
• Jamar Butler continues to establish himself as one of the most prolific three-point shooters in Ohio State history. After eight 3-point attempts in Monday nights game, Butler moved into the all-time career leader with 438. He also ranks first on the all-time 3-point field goals career list with 164 treys and ranks eighth in career 3-point shooting percentage (164-438/.374).
• Ohio State led 25-22 at halftime Monday. The Buckeyes have won 37 of their last 40 games when leading at halftime and is 74-9 when leading at the halfway mark under Matta.
• Butler dished out six assists in the contest for a career total of 397, good for seventh on the all-time career list. The senior is only four helpers behind No. 6 Larry Bolden (1974-77/401) on the career assist chart. During his tenure at Ohio State, the Buckeyes are 42-8 when Butler has four or more assists. Butler reached the four assist plateau Monday in the first half on an alley-oop to Othello Hunter.
• Butler reached 100 career steals after taking away three on Monday night. He now totals 101 for his career.
