The Buckeyes open their 2009 baseball season the weekend of Feb. 20-22 at the Big East/Big Ten Challenge in St. Petersburg, Fla.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Tickets for the inaugural BIG EAST/Big Ten Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, are available online at www.BIGEASTBigTenChallenge.com. Those interested in purchasing tickets via phone can call 410-472-3500.

An all-tournament pass, which provides access to all 27 games of the Challenge, can be purchased for $10. Individual venue passes are available for $5. An individual venue pass will admit one spectator to the any game on a given day at Progress Energy Park, the Raymond A. Naimoli Complex, Jack Russell Stadium, Bright House Field or Dunedin Stadium. Youth and social organizations also can sell all-tournament passes with a portion of the proceeds going to the selling organization. Feb. 20   Fri. vs. Notre Dame#    Dunedin, Fla.         7:30 p.m.
Feb. 21   Sat. vs. Connecticut@   St. Petersburg, Fla.  4 p.m.
Feb. 22   Sun. vs. Cincinnati@    St. Petersburg, Fla.  10 a.m.

# at Dunedin Stadium; @ at Progress Energy Park

All 10 of the Big Ten’s baseball-playing institutions will compete in the inaugural event, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue. Eight BIG EAST representatives will participate, including South Florida, Connecticut, Georgetown, St. John’s, Seton Hall, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Notre Dame. Each day there will be eight games that feature a BIG EAST team taking on a club from the Big Ten along with one non-conference contest in which two Big Ten schools face off.

The Ohio State University Department of Athletics sponsors 36 fully funded varsity teams – 17 for women, 16 for men and three co-educational. The department is committed to providing its more than 1,000 student-athletes with the finest in academic and athletics support in order to ensure a quality and life-enhancing experience. The Department of Athletics is completely self-supporting and receives no university monies, tax dollars or student fees. In Fiscal Year 2009-10, the Department of Athletics will transfer back to the University more than $29 million in assessments, including $14.5 million in grant-in-aid costs.
