2010 Overview: A .320 career hitter, Hurley was voted a 2010 co-captain by his peers. The veteran outfielder drafted in the 45th round of the 2009 amateur draft by the Florida Marlins tore up right-handed pitching last season, hitting at a .371 clip. Zach has also proved to be a quality baserunner, stealing 19 bases over the past two seasons and showed some pop at the plate in 2009 with six long balls after one in his first two seasons.

2009 (Junior): Played in 60 games, starting all but one ... named Academic All-Big Ten Conference and an OSU Scholar-Athlete ... tied for third on the team with a .346 batting average with 12 doubles and six home runs primarily out of the leadoff spot ... led the Big Ten with six triples and was second with 89 hits ... second on the team and tied for fourth in the Big Ten with 58 runs scored ... also led the team with 14 stolen bases, 29 multi-hit games and tied for the team lead with 33 walks ... had a 16-game hitting streak (3/7-3/31) that included 12 multi-hit games ... batted .444 (4-for-9) with a triple and three RBI in the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge ... hit safely in half of his at-bats (11-for-22) with a double, a triple and two home runs in the Kennel Club Classic ... batted .455 (10-for-22) with a trio of extra base hits and 12 RBI in the Palm Beach Classic ... hit .400 (6-for-15) in the Penn State series ... batted. 500 (5-for-10) with a home run and four RBI against Michigan State ... went 6-for-11 (.545) in the Iowa series.

2008 (Sophomore): Zach became an every day player, playing in 49 games and making 35 starts throughout the outfield (12 in center; 11 in left and four in right) plus an additional eight starts as the designated hitter ... hit over .300 for the season plus slugged at a .410 rate ... drove in an RBI in all eight of his at-bats with a runner on third and less than two out ... reached base 48 percent of the time when leading off, third-best percentage on the team ...  five stolen bases also ranked third on the team ... hit .356 over the last 15 games of the season to raise his average from .277 to .302 ... went 4-for-11 vs. Iowa (.363) after 5-for-10 weekend vs. Illinois ... walked five times in Northwestern series ... made two huge plays in win over Penn State on March 30 (RBI triple in the sixth inning and game-saving, diving catch in center field in the eighth) ... had two singles and two runs scored in the second inning alone vs. Eastern Michigan ... hit first collegiate home run in G1 vs. Purdue ... a .967 fielder with four outfield assists.

2007 (Freshman):  Appeared in 22 games and started seven times with three starts in left field, two in right and two as the designated hitter ... also appeared in 12 Big Ten Conference games with seven starts and hit .235 in conference games ... went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI vs. Toledo ... had RBI vs. Michigan and Minnesota in Big Ten regular season games ... scored three runs in G4 vs. Indiana ... named to the Academic All-Big Ten team and was an OSU Scholar-Athlete for the second time ... played for Cincinnati in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and was named to its all-league second team after hitting .299 with 33 hits and 13 RBI.

2006 (Redshirt):  Did not play in any games for the Buckeyes ... named an OSU Scholar-Athlete ... played summer baseball for the Cincinnati Steam of the Great Lakes League.

Springboro H.S.:  Earned first-team all-state honors as a senior after earning second-team honors his junior year ... named the Miami Valley Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year as a member of the organization’s all-area team as a senior ... also garnered player of the year honors in the Mid Miami League and was a first-team selection of the MML as a sophomore, junior and senior ... named MVP of the Mizuno All-Ohio Senior Series as a senior and was selected to Team Ohio ... was his team’s MVP as a sophomore and a senior and was the team’s most valuable offensive player as a junior ... served as team captain his final season ... three-year starter and three-year letterwinner ... holds 10 school records and holds a state record with three triples in one game ... was high school’s Top Male Athlete as a senior ... batted .468 with a .840 slugging percentage and .595 on-base percentage as a senior ... batted .440 with 12 home runs and 14 triples for his career ... team finished 21-7 his senior year and finished second in the MML ... three-year starter on the football team and was the team captain and an all-league strong safety as a senior ... was a member of FCA and was a teen mentor and a swimming instructor for the disabled.
