Eberly notched his 118th-career doubles victory Friday, which ties him for first-place in the Buckeye records book with Ross Wilson (2003-06).

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The remaining Ohio State men’s tennis NCAA championships contenders dropped their quarterfinal matches in singles and doubles action Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla., to bring the 2008 Buckeye season to a close.

For the second-consecutive season, at least one Buckeye advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket. Junior Steven Moneke, who played his way to the quarterfinals last season, made it to the final eight again in 2008. As a sophomore, Justin Kronauge also played amongst the last eight Saturday, marking the first time in Ohio State history two Buckeyes advanced to the singles quarterfinals in the same national championship.

Kronauge paired with senior Drew Eberly in the doubles quarterfinals Saturday, the furthest any Ohio State doubles team has advanced in the NCAA championships. Eberly notched his 118th-career doubles victory Friday, which ties him for first-place in the Buckeye records book with Ross Wilson (2003-06).

Kronauge, a native of Centerville, Ohio, lost 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to Top 8-seed Andre Begemann of Pepperdine. Kronauge wraps up the season with a team-best 41 singles wins, which places him tied for fourth all-time at Ohio State with Vince Ng (2003).

Out of Alten-Busick, Germany, Moneke lost to J.P. Smith of Tennessee 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3. For the season, Moneke compiled 38 wins and 101 for his career. The total for his career ranks him eighth all-time in the Buckeye records.

Eberly, a Lake Forest, Ill, native, and Kronauge fell in three sets to Austin Krajicek and Conor Pollack of Texas A&M 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Ohio State finished the team portion of its schedule in the NCAA team quarterfinals with only two losses for the third-consecutive year. The Buckeyes set the school record for most wins in a single season (35), longest dual match win streak (23) and best single-season winning percentage (.946).
