Dee Dee Hillman had two hits in the Buckeyes' loss to Hawai'i Saturday.

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Amanda Tauali‘i hit a grand slam in the top of the fifth to lead Hawai'i over the No. 23 Ohio State softball team, 4-2, Saturday afternoon in the Cathedral City Classic. The Buckeyes, who had a six-game winning streak going into the game, fall to 10-2 on the season, while the Wahines improve to 3-10 overall.

Ohio State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first after Vanessa Spears started off the inning by reaching first on an error. She advanced on a bunt single by Dee Dee Hillman, who finished the day with two hits, and scored on an RBI single by Sam Marder. The Buckeyes stretched the lead to two off a Tory Haddad single to right center that plated Marder.

The next three innings passed in a blur of strikeouts by senior Kim Reeder, who tallied a career-high tying 12 strikeouts on the day, including three in the fourth.

Hawai'i fought back in the top of the fifth inning, loading the bases on a pair of singles and a walk before Alicia Herron threw out the lead runner at home to preserve the lead. The bases were once again loaded, however, for Tauali'i who hit her first career grand slam over the left centerfield fence to put the Wahine on top 4-2.

Reeder struck out the next two batters, but the damage was done heading into the bottom of the fifth. The Buckeyes threatened in the sixth, putting runners on the corners, but left them stranded on base.

The Buckeyes take on Loyola Marymount at 8:30 Saturday night.
