COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State Buckeye pitcher Kim Reeder (Salinas, Calif.) earned the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week award for the week of February 9-15.  The 5’10” senior helped lead the Buckeyes to a five-game sweep of the Easton Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La., over the weekend.  Named the tournament MVP, she compiled a 3-0 record in the circle with wins against a then No. 13 Texas A&M and No. 20 LSU.

With Reeder's efforts, the Buckeyes moved into the Top 25 for the first time this season, earning the No. 23 spot.

“I’m extremely excited to have received national honors because it reflects how amazing our defense did this weekend to shutout two ranked teams,” said Reeder.  “My catcher, Sam Marder, did a fantastic job behind the plate to prevent runners from advancing and our entire team deserves a ton of credit. It is an honor to represent how well our team played. ”

Against LSU, the right-handed hurler tallied a 2-0 shutout victory with seven strikeouts allowing just two hits before defeating Sam Houston State in four innings with a 6-3 victory.  Against the Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday, Reeder struck out 11 batters and allowed just two hits. In four games of action, the senior gave up just one run on eight hits for a 0.38 ERA through the weekend.

“Kim was absolutely outstanding this weekend, as was our entire team,” said Ohio State head coach Linda Kalafatis.  “She is without a doubt one of the hardest workers on the team and has taken a great leadership role in her senior season. She is very focused, driven and is doing a great job, along with the rest of the captains, of keeping the team focused.”

This marks the first USA Softball Player of the Week honor for Reeder in her career.
