Kalafatis on Hillman: “Dee Dee was super in the lead-off spot this fall. She was consistent and has a greater grasp of what we need her to do. She needs to get on base because we have some people behind her that can drive her in. We worked her some in centerfield so she’ll be prepared to play left or center, not only does she get to the ball quickly, but she has s a very accurate throw and she gets rid of the ball very quickly.”

At a glance: Enjoyed a successful freshman campaign that ended with All-Big Ten honors ... can play second base or left field ... also can switch hit but will most likely focus on batting from the left side ... coaches love her competitiveness and hustle.

2008 (Freshman Season): Member of the third team All-Big Ten ... started in 54 games and played in 55 overall ... had a .952 fielding percentage with only four errors ... scored 34 runs with 156 at bats (fourth on team) ... led the team in sac bunts (9) ... had 48 total bases ... slugging pct. of .308 ... had a .288 batting average ... hit three doubles (two vs. Marist Feb. 9) ... had the only hit in 8-0 loss to Northwestern in Big Ten Tournament ... went 4-4 against Illinois in game 2  March 30 to tie OSU freshman record for hits in a game ... led the team in batting in last two southern tournaments: .467 at Capital Classic July 15, .417 at UNLV Invitational May 12 ... went 3-3 in win at UNLV March 9.

Prior to Ohio State: Was a national all-region selection and a second-team All-Ohio pick ... named the Western Buckeye League Player of the Year ... first-team all-conference and all-district ... batted .448 and had a .552 on base percentage ... helped lead Defiance to a WBL title and district runner-up finish ... earned NFCA Scholar All-America honors ... scored 1,000 points in her high school basketball career and was named captain and first-team all-conference and all-district ... played goalkeeper on the soccer team and was a first-team All-WBL selection and honorable mention all-district ... set school records for saves in a half (20), saves in a game (38) and saves in a season (332).

Personal: Daughter of Talmer and Sandra Hillman ... has three sisters, Tammy (43), Latrida (37) and Saundra (32) ... would like to become a personal trainer after graduation ... lists greatest sports thrill as playing in Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma ... earned her school’s Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award ... member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society and earned the Student Leadership Award.
