Ohio State Closes Out Fall Campaign in California

Junior Michael Cress fires even-par to lead Buckeyes at CordeValle

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's golf team closed out its final tournament of the fall schedule Wednesday in 13th place at the Gilford Collegiate Championship at CordeValle. The Buckeyes finished 27-over par for the 54-hole, 6-count-5 tournament on the par-72, 7,169 yard CordeValle Country Club in San Martin, Calif. 

The tournament title went to Stanford with a team score of 24-under par. The medalist was Peter Uihlein of Oklahoma State who carded a 14-under 202.

Ohio State was led by junior Michael Cress who fired rounds of 72-70-74 to finish at even-par 216 for the tournament and tied for 28th place. The Dublin, Ohio native closed out the fall season with a round that included three birdies and a string of seven straight pars.

Matthew Turner followed closely behind Cress with a 4-over 220. The rookie from Dubai finished tied for 43rd after a final round of 1-over 73 in which he tallied two birdies to three bogeys.

Junior Bo Hoag fired his third-consecutive round of 74 to finish in a tie for 50th place at 6-over. The Upper Arlington, Ohio, native carded a 222 for the tournament that included eight straight pars to open the final day of play.

Senior Brad Wright, from Cambridge, Ohio, shot a final round 75 en route to a tie for 57th place and a total of 9-over 225. Redshirt freshman Jamie Sindelar finished just behind Wright with a 9-over 225. The Horseheads, N.Y., native finished 65th also with a final round of 75. The Buckeyes' effort was rounded out by Johnny Henno who totaled 239 for the event for 88th place.

The Buckeyes will open their spring slate when they return to action Feb. 12-13 as they battle league foes in the Big Ten Match Play Championships in Coral Springs, Fla.
