New Haven, Conn. – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced its Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending November 3.

About the Award: It is the fourth consecutive year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national “Bowl Subdivision Player of the Week.” Selections are made each week during the regular season by a panel of national media members and publicized by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DARREN McFADDEN, ARKANSAS
Junior, Running Back, Little Rock, Ark./Pulaski Oak Grove HS
Junior running back Darren McFadden, a 2006 Walter Camp First Team All-America selection, rushed for a school and SEC-record 323 yards (on 35 carries) as Arkansas defeated 23rd-ranked South Carolina, 48-36. McFadden had one touchdown run – an 80-yarder – passed for one score (23 yards) and totaled 357 all-purpose yards for the game. McFadden, who became just the second SEC player (Herschel Walker, Georgia) to record 1,000 rushing yards in each of their first three collegiate seasons, surpassed former Vanderbilt player Frank Mordica’s SEC single-game rushing mark of 321 yards set in 1978.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JAMES LAURINAITIS, OHIO STATE
Junior, Linebacker, Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS
Junior linebacker James Laurinaitis recorded a career-high 19 tackles (9 solo), including a key stop on a fourth-quarter fake punt attempt, to lead top-ranked Ohio State to a 38-17 victory over 19th-ranked Wisconsin. In addition to his 19 tackles, Laurinaitis added two tackles for loss, one quarterback sack and one fumble recovery to lead the Buckeye defense that allowed just 281 yards of total offense. A 2006 First Team Walter Camp All-America selection, Laurinaitis has been a major part of Ohio State’s perfect 10-0 record, 6-0 in the Big Ten.

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
