Daniels spent 39 years in the coaching profession. He has extensive experience on both the collegiate and professional levels and is regarded as one of the outstanding teachers in the game. Daniels joined the Ohio State staff in the late winter of 2001 as coach of the quarterbacks and wide receivers. He was named to his present position prior to the start of the 2004 campaign. Daniels has been instrumental in the development of many outstanding players, most notably 2006 All-America and Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith. He was one of five finalists for the 2006 Frank Broyles Award as the nation’s most outstanding assistant coach.

A native of Bethel Park, Pa. Daniels graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1964 with a degree in physical education. He played running back in college and was a four-year letterwinner. His coaching career has been distinguished, with players such as Ken O’Brien, Andre Reed, Ozzie Newsome and Dan Marino under his tutelage. Daniels was elected to the Bethel Park Hall of Fame in 2002 and to the Slippery Rock Hall of Fame in 2004. He will be inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in May, 2009.

He was the inaugural recipient of the Tyson Gentry Courage Award from the Columbus chapter of the National Football Foundation in 2009.
