COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Dustin Carlson and freshman Zac Dalpe have been named CCHA Goaltender and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Monday. The duo helped the Buckeyes to a sweep of No. 11 Michigan State over the weekend, with Carlson stopping 45-of-46 shots and Dalpe scoring two goals and three points.

Carlson, from Forest Lake, Minn., allowed just one goal in the Buckeyes’ series sweep of Michigan State, stopping 45-of-46 shots (.978 sv. pct.) with a .50 goals-against average. Friday, Carlson was the first star of the game as he stopped all 21 shots he faced in the first shutout of his career and the Buckeyes’ first since Nov. 24, 2007, at Western Michigan. Saturday, Carlson stopped 24-of-25 shots, with saves on the last nine shots he faced, allowing the Buckeyes to break a 1-all tie and hold on for the win and series sweep. He was named the second star of the game. Carlson helped his own cause with an assist, the first of his career, on Peter Boyd’s goal to open the scoring Saturday. Carlson and the Buckeyes were a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill in the series.

This is the second league weekly honor for Paris, Ontario, native Dalpe, who also was named the league’s top rookie Oct. 20. Against the Spartans, Dalpe had an assist and +1 mark Friday in the team’s 3-0 victory. Saturday, he was named the first star of the 3-1 victory after scoring two third-period goals. The Buckeyes scored the first goal of the game at 6:13 of the third, with MSU tying the score just 17 seconds later. Dalpe then took control, scoring the gamewinner at 11:44 to put the Buckeyes on top and sealing the win with an empty-netter with 51 seconds left. He was +2 in the game. The Carolina Hurricanes second-round draft pick now leads the Buckeyes with six goals and nine points this season.

The Buckeyes take a break from conference play this weekend when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., to take on Robert Morris in the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase. The Buckeyes and Colonials will meet at 8:05 p.m. Friday in Mellon Arena, home of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.
