Friday Nov. 20
In three seasons, wrestling head coach Tom Ryan has coached 12 All-Americans, which is the most All-Americans by any Ohio State wrestling head coach in their first three seasons.

Thursday Nov. 19
The men's soccer team earned a fourth seed in the NCAA tournament, the highest seed in program history.The Buckeyes, who are hosting the opening rounds, receive a bye in the first round and will face the winner of Drake vs. Western Illinois at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Tuesday Nov. 17
For the first time in program history, the women's cross country team qualified for the NCAA championships in 2009 after a second-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Nov. 14. The Buckeyes were paced by Jordan Jennewine, who finished fifth individually. The NCAA championships are Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.

Monday Nov. 16
With a 173-80 win over Denison and a 189-107 victory against Miami, men's swimming head coach Bill Wadley became Ohio State's all-time winningest coach with 180 triumphs.

Friday Nov. 13
Junior Evan Turner became the first Buckeye since Dennis Hopson (1986) to record a triple double in the Buckeyes' 100-60 win over Alcorn State Nov. 9 at Value City Arena. Turner had 14 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists.

Thursday Nov. 12
The men's swimming team, 1-0 on the season with a complete-team win over Kenyon two weeks ago, have not lost a dual meet to an Ohio school in 11 years (Cincinnati in 1997-98). 

Tuesday Nov. 10
For the fifth time in program history, the women's soccer team will compete in the NCAA Tournament. All five appearances have come under head coach Lori Walker.

The Buckeyes will host First and Second Round action at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium starting Friday at 5 p.m. Florida and Illinois State is game one and Ohio State will face Oregon State in game two at 5:30 p.m. First Round winners will play at 1 p.m. Sunday. 

Monday Nov. 9
The football team's game vs. Penn State Nov. 7 was the first-ever regular season matchup between coaches who total 600+ career wins between them: Joe Paterno (391) and Jim Tressel (225); the meeting between Bobby Bowden (377 at that time) and Frank Beamer (214) last October 25 had only 591 career wins between the coaches.

Friday Nov. 6
Field hockey letterwinner Curlyne Wynn (2003-06) was the first Buckeye to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Berta Queralt, a rookie on the 2009 squad, earned the honor Thursday at the annual conference banquet in East Lansing, Mich. Queralt also was named First Team All-Big Ten and has recorded 46 points in her rookie campaign.

Thursday Nov. 5
Junior center Jantel Lavender was named to the Associated Press' 2009-10 Preseason Women's All-America basketball team. She is only the second women's player at Ohio State to be named to the five-member preseason squad. Former Buckeye All-American Jessica Davenport was the first.

Wednesday Nov. 4
Ohio State leads all Big Ten teams with seven players on current NBA rosters. The Big Ten started the season with 33 players on NBA active lists. Nine Big Ten teams have at least one player competing in the NBA. Michael Redd (Milwaukee Bucks) is the longest tenured Buckeye in the NBA. Greg Oden (Portland), Michael Conley (Memphis), Daequan Cook (Miami), Othello Hunter (Atlanta), Kosta Koufos (Utah) and B.J. Mullens (Oklahoma) represent Ohio State in the NBA.

Tuesday Nov. 3
Senior men's hockey student-athlete Mathieu Picard played in the 100th game of his career Oct. 30 at Notre Dame.  

Monday Nov. 2
Collegeswimming.com released its rankings of the top recruiting classes and women's swimming head coach Bill Dorenkott and assistant coach Stefanie Williams' initial class of recruits was ranked as the second-best class in the Big Ten Conference and a Top 20 class overall (19th). The Buckeyes opened the 2009-10 season Oct. 30 with a win over Division III powerhouse Kenyon in McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus. Ohio State was dominant in its 144-87 victory. 

Friday Oct. 30
The men's hockey team takes on Notre Dame Friday and Saturday in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action. Paul Pooley, the Buckeyes' all-time leading scorer (270), is in his fourth season as the associate head coach for the Irish. His sweater was retired during the OSU vs. ND series in November 2006, marking the first Buckeye hockey player so honored. Pooley was OSU's assistant coach for three years and was an assistant under ND coach Jeff Jackson at Lake Superior State, where the Lakers won two NCAA titles (1992 and '94).

Thursday Oct. 29
For the first time in program history, the field hockey team, ranked 15th in the nation, downed No. 13 Duke, 2-1, Oct. 25 at North Turf Field in Columbus, Ohio, on Senior Day. With one more regular-season game and the Big Ten tournament and hopefully a deep run in the NCAA tournament, the senior class hopes to add on to the 47 victories it has compiled in four seasons. 

Wednesday Oct. 28
The Buckeye women's volleyball team was the last Big Ten squad to defeat two-time defending national champion Penn State. The date was Nov. 8, 2006 (30-19, 30-26, 30-21) in Columbus. The Nittany Lions, who went undefeated last season with a 38-0 record, will host the Buckeyes at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Rec Hall in State College, Pa.

Monday Oct. 26
The 2009 women's soccer team's senior class defeated Purdue, 1-0, in overtime for the first time in their careers Sunday Oct. 25. In a race for the Big Ten championship, the Buckeyes remained atop of the standings with the victory over the Boilermakers. The win also served as the first for the Buckeyes over Purdue since Nov. 4, 2004. 

Friday Oct. 23
The football team's 30-0 win against Illinois Sept. 26 in Ohio Stadium was the 500th for the Tressel family as head coaches. That mark is second only to the Bowdens. Jim Tressel now has 223 victories in his career at Youngstown State and Ohio State. Dick Tressel had 124 victories at Hamline and father Lee Tressel recorded 155 career wins at Baldwin Wallace.

Thursday Oct. 22
Starting in net for the women's hockey team in the season-opening series at Boston University was freshman Chelsea Knapp. She became the first rookie to start the season in the Ohio State goal since the inaugural season in 1999-2000. The Buckeyes rotated two freshmen goalies that season in April Stojak and Melissa Glaser.

Wednesday Oct. 21
The men's soccer team has allowed the second-fewest goals in the Big Ten (11) and hold a team 0.75 goals-against average, a mark that also stands as second in the conference. Anchored by Doug Verhoff and David Tiemstra in the middle with Dalton Summers and lately Joe Moore on the flanks, the defense has posted six shutouts and limited opponents to a .418 shot on goal percentage this season.

Tuesday Oct. 20
With field hockey forwards Maria Briones and Berta Queralt earning Big Ten Offensive and Freshman of the Week honors Monday, Ohio State now has garnered nine weekly conference laurels so far during the 2009 season. Ohio State has recorded the most weekly awards in a single season since 2006 when the team first earned a program-high nine awards. Only Michigan has received more in a single season with the Wolverines garnering 10 in 2002. 

Monday Oct. 19
The women's hockey team already has played in three overtime games just six games into the 2009-10 season. The Buckeyes have set the NCAA record for overtime games twice with 10.

Friday Oct. 16
It is believed P.J. Hill and Tayler Hill are the first brother, sister duo in Ohio State basketball history. P.J. is a senior guard, while Tayler has entered her freshman season.

Both the men's and women's basketball teams held their media days Thursday and the first official day of practice begins today.

Thursday Oct. 15
Lauren "Taz" Robertson of the women's soccer team broke the program's shutout record with 23 blankings in the Buckeyes' 2-0 win over North Texas Sept. 18. The previous record of 22 was held by Amber Barnes, which she set in 2000.

Wednesday Oct. 14
Field hockey senior goalkeeper Lindsay Quintiliani owns the No. 1 spot in the OSU all-time record book for victories, passing Lindsay Williams (36 wins, 2002-05) with a 2-0 shutout over Iowa Oct. 11. The Mountain, Top, Pa., native is one shy of tying the all-time career shutout record which is held by Sue Willson (1989-92) with 15.

Tuesday Oct. 13
The two men's hockey assistant coaches, Steve Brent and JB Bittner, were multiple-time Ohio State team captains. Brent was a Buckeye captain in 1995, '96 and '97 and Bittner led the Scarlet and Gray in 2004 and '05. 

Monday Oct. 12
Senior wide receiver/kick returner Ray Small returned a third-quarter kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown in Ohio State's 31-13 victory over Wisconsin Oct. 10 in Ohio Stadium. It marked the first KO return for a score since Ted Ginn Jr., on the opening kickoff of the 2007 BCS National Championship game.

Friday Oct. 9
With the field hockey team's 5-2 victory over Miami (Ohio) Wednesday Oct. 7, head coach Anne Wilkinson moved to 14-0 against the RedHawks. The Buckeyes lead the series, 32-5-1.

Thursday Oct. 8
Joshua Breto's (men's soccer) three career goals have all been gamewinners. Breto once again was clutch in the Buckeyes' 1-0 victory over Oakland Wednesday, Oct. 7 to help Ohio State improve to 6-2-3 on the season.

Wednesday Oct. 7
The men's tennis team has won 89 consecutive home matches. The Buckeyes' streak began April 6, 2003 under head coach Ty Tucker.
Although Ohio State will not play a home match until Jan. 20, 2010, members of the team are playing in fall tournaments, including the D'Novo All-American Championships this week in Tulsa, Okla.

Tuesday Oct. 6
The men's hockey team officially begins the 2009-10 season Thursday with a two-game series vs. Quinnipiac. The Buckeyes and Bobcats will face off in Value City Arena at 7:05 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Admission is free to Ohio State students with a valid BuckID.

Single-game tickets are now on sale for all Ohio State regular-season games. Adult tickets are $11, with seniors citizens (62+) $8 and students/children $6. Tickets can be purchased online at OhioStateBuckeyes.com, by calling Ticketmaster (1-800-745-3000) or in person at any Ticketmaster outlet or the Ohio State Ticket Office.

Monday Oct. 5
With five runners placing in the Top 20, the women's cross country team won the All-Ohio championships this past weekend for the first time in 18 years. The men's squad also captured the All-Ohio title in Delaware, Ohio. Across both teams, a Buckeye won the individual title with junior Jordan Jennewine crossing the finish line in 18:10.3. On the men's side, senior Jeff See clocked an 8k time of 26.07.9.

Friday Oct. 2
Rowing encompasses sweeping (one oar per person) and sculling (two oars per person). In collegiate rowing, the athletes compete only in sweeping events. The larger boats usually have coxswains, who steer the boat. The minimum and most advantageous weight for a female coxswain is 100 pounds. They can either sit in the front (stern) or back (bow) of the boat.

Ohio State has started fall practice and will race Michigan Saturday in Ann Arbor in a friendly scrimmage. For the Buckeyes' complete spring schedule, click HERE.

Thursday Oct. 1
The women's hockey team's season-opener against Boston University Friday night will be the 500th career game for head coach Jackie Barto. The Newton, Mass., native is in her 11th season at the helm of the Buckeyes as the first and only women's hockey coach at Ohio State, and is in her 16th season behind the bench overall.

Wednesday Sept. 30
The women's volleyball team will host Iowa at 7 p.m. Saturday in St. John Arena in the second of three consecutive home matches. The Buckeyes lead the all-time series against the Hawkeyes, 48-9, including 14 straight victories. That streak was snapped last season when the Scarlet and Gray dropped a 3-1 decision in Columbus. At home
, the Buckeyes are 24-5 against the Hawkeyes and have a 21-4 mark in Iowa City. OSU is 3-0 in neutral-site matches.

Tuesday Sept. 29
With the men's soccer team's 1-0 win over Big Ten Conference opponent Michigan State Sunday, Ohio State is off to its best start in program history - undefeated with a 5-0-3 record. The Buckeyes will be put to the test Wednesday when they take on No. 1 Akron at 7:30 p.m. at Lee Jackson Field in Akron, Ohio.

Monday Sept. 28
Last season, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association became the first NCAA Division I women's conference to officially re-introduce the shootout to college hockey and the shootouts will continue this season. The Central Collegiate Hockey Association, of which the Ohio State men's hockey team is a member, also will continue to use the shootout in its men's games.

In 2008-09, the Buckeyes won both of their shootouts, 1-0. Ohio State topped Minnesota State (Dec. 12) in a nine-round shootout in Mankato, with Jenna Kilpatrick clinching the win. The other was at Bemidji State, with Natalie Spooner scoring in just the third round.

Ohio State opens its 2009-10 season this weekend, Friday and Saturday, with a nonconference series at Boston University.

Friday Sept. 25
Officiating the Ohio State-Ohio field hockey game Sept. 11 was Mary Brainard, a former Ohio State field hockey player, and Suzie Stammer who played at Ohio University. The Buckeyes came away with the victory at North Turf Field, 3-0.

The Scarlet and Gray open Big Ten Conference play at 1 p.m. Sunday at North Turf Field.

Thursday Sept. 24
Ohio State student-athletes combined to serve the Columbus community with 6,496 hours of community service at 117 local organizations, schools and events during the 2008-09 season. Leading the way was the cheerleading team with an outstanding 1,671 hours, followed by the football team with 799 hours and the men's track and field team in third with 728.

A total of eight teams clocked in with more than 200 hours, including men's lacrosse (389), wrestling (328), rowing (276.5), women's hockey (232) and field hockey (208).

Wednesday Sept. 23
Fall baseball practice began last Monday (Sept. 14) with head coach Bob Todd beginning his 23rd year with the program. He will enter the spring season needing just three victories to reach 1,000 for his career. He carries a 997-536-2 overall mark into this, his 27th season, as a Division I head coach. An 18-6 Big Ten record last year lifted his conference mark to 402-223 and earned Todd his seventh Big Ten regular season championship and his fifth Big Ten coach of the year honor.

The annual Scarlet and Gray World Series beginning Oct. 12 at Bill Davis Stadium will conclude fall ball.

Tuesday Sept. 22
Three Ohio State keepers combined for five shutouts the weekend of Sept. 18-20.

Lindsay Quintiliani, a senior on the field hockey team, blanked Vermont, 3-0, Sept. 18 and followed with another clean sheet vs. Central Michigan, 1-0, Sept. 20 for her third shutout of 2009. Quintiliani has 12 career shutouts and ranks third in the OSU all-time record book.

Senior women's soccer keeper Lauren Robertson also recorded two clean slates that weekend. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native broke Amber Barnes' record against North Texas Sept. 18 and made a pair of big saves against Toledo Sept. 20 to notch her seventh of the season and 24th career shutout.

Matt Lampson, a redshirt freshman on the men's soccer team, played all 110 minutes against SUI Edwardsville Sept. 20, making four stops as the Buckeyes played to a 0-0 tie. The squad remained unbeaten at 3-0-3.

Monday Sept. 21
Women's volleyball's
and were named to the UW-Milwaukee Panther Invitational All-Tournament Team Sept. 12-13. It marked the third-consecutive week the pair received all-tournament honors. Dull produced career-highs of 30 points and 25 kills against Western Michigan. She added three ace serves, seven digs and four assist blocks against the Broncos. Against Milwaukee, Dull recorded a match-high 12 points with 11 kills and two assist blocks and added eight digs. In the Western Michigan match, Dozier recorded 18.5 points with 15 kills and seven assist blocks. At Milwaukee, she had 11 points with seven kills and seven total blocks with a solo and six assists. At Marquette, Dull had a match-high 24 points with 17 kills, four ace serves and three solo blocks. Dozier contributed 7.5 points with six kills and three assist blocks.

Friday Sept. 18
After skating to a 3-3 tie through regulation and overtime, the men's hockey team and eighth-ranked Miami participated in the first ever shootout in Central Collegiate Hockey Association play in 2008. The Buckeyes prevailed for the conference win, as Corey Elkins, Zac Dalpe and Peter Boyd all converted their shootout attempts and Joseph Palmer made one save, to win the shootout, 3-1.

Thursday Sept. 17
Michael Redd is the third Ohio State men's basketball player to go on to win Olympic gold. Jerry Lucas did so in 1960, while Bill Hosket accomplished the feat in 1968. Both Lucas and Hosket were amateurs when they represented the United States in Olympic competition. Redd has been an NBA professional with the Milwaukee Bucks since leaving Ohio State after his junior year in 2000.

Redd, his wife Achea and the Michael Redd Foundation recently contributed $500,000 to the basketball practice facility renovation and enhancement project. The gift is the largest in the history of Ohio State athletics by a current professional athlete.

Wednesday Sept. 16
Men's soccer head coach John Bluem entered his 13th season at the helm of the Buckeyes in 2009 with an OSU record of 127-90-31 and a 17-year career mark of 213-117-43, a figure that puts him among the Top 35 active NCAA coaches in total wins and win percentage. Under his guidance, the Buckeyes entered the most successful era in program history, complete with three Big Ten titles, 10 Major League Soccer draft picks and all six of Ohio State's appearances in the NCAA tournament, including the 2007 College Cup.

Tuesday Sept. 15
In 2008, the field hockey team shut out nine opponents, the most since 1979 when the Buckeyes blanked 11 teams. The Ohio State defense held opponents to an average of just 1.24 goals per game, 7.3 shots per game and 4.2 penalty corners per game.

Monday Sept. 14
After collecting nearly 151 tons of recyclable materials at home games during the last two Ohio State football seasons, the University's Scarlet, Gray and Green sustainability campaign exceeded its own expectations for the 2009 opener vs. Navy Sept. 5. The campaign gathered more than 10 tons of recyclable materials, marking 114 percent of its goal.

Friday Sept. 11
In 2007-08, the men's cross country and men's indoor and outdoor track & field teams all finished in the Top 3 at their respective Big Ten championships. Ohio State had not accomplished that feat since 1942.

Thursday Sept. 10
The attendance of 105,092 at the Ohio State vs. Navy football game Sept. 5 was a record for opening-day attendance at Ohio Stadium.

Wednesday Sept. 9
After beginning his coaching career in 1994, second-year women's volleyball head coach Geoff Carlston left high school coaching for two years to join the Peace Corps. He volunteered in Belize, but remained close to the sport of volleyball, serving as head coach of the Belize women's national team and as an assistant for the men's national team. He helped develop a year-round training program and the team finished fourth at the 1997 Central America championship, earning the country's first international victories.

Tuesday Sept. 8
Women's soccer's 13-year veteran head coach Lori Walker annually scouts, watches and learns from the best players and top coaches from around the world through her work as a color commentator for televised soccer matches, something she has done for more than 80 games during the last nine years. The most experienced American female analyst calling games off-monitor, Walker's announcing resume is impressive: She has provided analysis for FOX Soccer Channel's coverage of the US Women's National team the past three summers. She called her second Olympic Games as part of NBC's HD broadcast of men's and women's games at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She also called the 2004 Athens Olympic soccer games. In 2007, Walker was an ESPN and ESPN2 analyst for nine FIFA Women's World Cup matches. She was the first female analyst to call a men's game during the 2006 MLS season for HDNet. She has announced three seasons - 2001-03 - of Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) action and this past summer she called Women's Professional Soccer games on Fox Soccer Channel and Comcast.

Friday Sept. 4
Former field hockey letterwinner Saskia Mueller (2003-2006) was the first Buckeye in program history to sign a professional field hockey contract (June 2007). Linda Haussener (2005-08) joined Mueller in the professional ranks in 2009. Both former letterwinners hail from Switzerland and helped the Swiss National Team win the 2009 EuroHockey Nations Challenge in August in Olten, Switzerland.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Mueller, who tallied three goals for the squad, was named the Most Valuable Player for her performance.

With the Buckeye duo, both of whom earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors during their stints at Ohio State, the Swiss National team went undefeated at the challenge, including the 2-0 win over the Czech Republic in the finals.

Mueller, a three-time All-American midfielder for Ohio State, led the Buckeyes in assists in 2004, '05 and '06 and ranks second in the program record book with 45 career helpers. As a senior, she was named Big Ten Player of the Year and received the conference's Medal of Honor for excellence in both academics and athletics.

Haussener, who tallied a goal for the Swiss National Team in the tournament, ended her senior season similarly to Mueller, winning the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year laurel and the Big Ten Medal of Honor. Also a three-time All-American in the midfield, she led Ohio State in scoring in 2008, finishing with 52 points, the sixth most in a season by a Buckeye. For her Ohio State career, Haussener ranks fifth all-time in points and goals with 121 and 45, respectively.

Thursday Sept. 3
The men's soccer team has produced 10 Major League Soccer draft picks since 2003. In 2008, midfielder Roger Espinoza became the Buckeyes' highest MLS Draft pick, with the Kansas City Wizards nabbing him with the 11th overall pick in the first round. Defender Eric Brunner was the 16th overall pick as he was drafted in the second round by the New York Red Bulls. Forward Xavier Balc was selected by Toronto FC in the supplemental draft the following week as the No. 2 pick.

Dustin Kirby was selected by Real Salt Lake in 2006, while in the SuperDraft third round, defender Kyle Veris was taken at No. 25 overall by the L.A. Galaxy. Goalkeeper Ray Burse Jr. was selected at No. 30 by F.C. Dallas and was the first goalkeeper picked. In the 2003 draft, forward Andy Rosenband and defender Jake Traeger were taken in the seventh round, while in 2005, forward Justin Cook and midfielder Sammy Tamporello were taken in the supplemental draft.

This Friday and Saturday, the Buckeyes will host the annual Bert and Iris Wolstein Classic at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Ohio State hosts Cal State Fullerton, Gonzaga and Penn State. Game one action gets underway at 5 p.m. Friday with Penn State facing Cal State Fullerton followed by the Buckeyes vs. Gonzaga at 7:30 p.m. The lineup Sunday will kick off at noon.

Wednesday Sept. 2
New this year and good news for fans (and future fans) who attend Ohio State sporting events: four more athletic department intercollegiate sports - men's and women's soccer and men's and women's gymnastics - will now feature home events that are free to attend. Ohio State Composite Schedule

The elimination of admission prices for the four sports grows Ohio State's "admission is free" list (regular season events only) to 24 sports. Those sports and their home event locations are:

The Ohio State University Department of Athletics sponsors 36 fully funded varsity teams – 17 for women, 16 for men and three co-educational. The department is committed to providing its more than 1,000 student-athletes with the finest in academic and athletics support in order to ensure a quality and life-enhancing experience. The Department of Athletics is completely self-supporting and receives no university monies, tax dollars or student fees. In Fiscal Year 2009-10, the Department of Athletics will transfer back to the University more than $29 million in assessments, including $14.5 million in grant-in-aid costs.
